Just read “The Paris Apartment” by Lucy Foley and made me think of this request. Definitely as close to “queer Frieda McFadden” as I’ve come.

Hey @Katy, if you want the invitation link to remain open in perpituity (or until you turn it off) follow these steps:

Server Settings(top left)>Invite People...

At the bottom of the window is a link to invite people to the server.
Beneath that is a blue link that says "Edit Invite Link"

Click that, a new window will open called "server invite link settings"

The top dropdown will be for "Expire After" meaning how long the link will function before expiring. The default is 7 days.

Click the dropdown link, and instead choose "Never."

Then the link will remain open to new members of the board!

is a oneshot manga about a neurodivergent shut-in yearning for connection.


The Pentecost and Parker series is a fun noir mystery series with a bisexual lead.

is a historical FF adventure/romance about a heist on the Titanic.

was published in 1970, and it doesn't show. One of the first detective series to have an openly-gay male lead.

is a tragic story about a young lesbian orphan living in the doomed colony of roanoke.

is gross and weird but very queer, in all the best ways

And yeah I'll shill 'cause I think from your profile, you'd be into it:

Pentecost and Parker is a great cozy mystery series, the lead is a troublemaking bisexual, and her boss is a badass old lady despite suffering from MS.

I also really love Joseph Hansen, he wrote a series of murder mysteries from the POV of a gay detective(er, well, insurance investigator). The first book, Fadeout, was published in 1970, so you can imagine the climate at the time. Both of his partners of note were men of color iirc, and the books discuss intersectionality in the gay community, as well as disability and chronic illness, 20 years before the ADA became law.


They Never Learn is a feminist revenge thriller, more Freida McFadden than Agatha Christie or Raymond Chandler(respectively), I remember liking it but not much else, but it's the closest I've read to what you're looking for!

I came out as a lesbian at 37 and this sounds soooooo familiar. I felt self-conscious about coming out so late, especially at the beginning. It's comforting to hear there's others out there going through similar stuff 🧡

@starry eyes, as you can see, it's a process for everyone. If anything, questioning your queerness is a telltale sign that you definitely are queer lol.

@DSS It's probably innocuous--you dedicate some time to getting to know each other better or realize you're not that into her. Don't make any big decisions (eg moving in together) until that anxiety is assuaged, though.

Ahhhh we are southern friends, so that book sounds like something I’d like to read, and I don’t think I’ve heard of it before 🤔 thanks!

If you're looking for LGBT historical fiction, Sarah Waters and Patricia Highsmith are both great. Annie on My Mind is a good one too.

There have been a lot of good LGBT regency romances recently too(The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue and Don't Want You Like a Best Friend come to mind) that are cute and Bridgerton-y.

I hadn't heard of Sister Outsider, I'll check it out!

I just finished The Empress of Salt and Fortune and really enjoyed it, it's pretty short, and it's a series.

Love wives under the sea 🧡 Have you ever read Chuck Palahniuk? He's known for Fight Club, but his other work is a lot more horror-y, if you can stomach them. Haunted and Lullaby come to mind. Also, fun fact, he's gay.

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is pretty fun sci-fi, as is Gideon the Ninth(the series gets less fun in later books, though).

Most people make graphics with the quotes on them. You can use canva to make them, or instagram might be able to add words on top of a picture for posts, they let you do that in stories
