I'm not a writer. But in the late 80's I had a few phone conversations with writer Harry Crews and we talked about the writing process. He told me that for years he relied on alcohol to insure his writing. He had since been clean and found that he had to push himself to be inspired by getting up at six am every day and not eating or drinking coffee until he wrote a page or two. Somedays were very hard for him.
