I will probably continue the series even if at the moment I am not so sure, but I need more time between books from the same series, and my plate is pretty full at the moment in regard of the more demanding books so I think that it will be a book for next year! But I hope you will enjoy the rest of the series!!

Chapters 33-end

(view spoiler)[ So... I was trusting and I didn't see Silverpin's angle at all. And I was sorry to discover that she was not one of the good guys because I really liked her! And I was pretty shocked to discover that the child who was "thrown" in the vat with the black blood in the prologue was her! (But at least we got answers, so I was still happy even if I didn't see that coming!).

I am not so clear on the relationship between dragons and the White. I mean, they are somehow subjugated by him, like the Spoiled are, or so it seems, but... are they okay with it? Or is it another form of slavery?
I don't think this world as a whole is nice toward dragons!!

I like how Lizanne reacted to everything, and I am glad to see that others appreciated what she is trying to do (save them all), because I thought she would have faced more opposition, but I am glad I was wrong. She is amazing and she is smart and brave, and I love that she is trying to do her best for everyone, not only the nobles or the rich.

The last chapter was quite surprising, but at last, we see how Hilemore fits in there because toward the end I was starting to seriously wonder what the heck he was doing in this story??!!

All in all, I enjoyed the book but... we didn't really click. There was no spark. I can't say what didn't work so well, because the world-building is fascinating and pretty original, the characters are good, and the plot is a good balance between action and twists and exploration. But still... I didn't love it as I was hoping, even if I enjoyed it. I can't really say why the spark wasn't there! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The author did a good job with the war, writing-wise (obviously I am not happy with the war per se, it would have been better if they managed to save things but still... it was sort of interesting to read about it and we have some good scenes in there!).

I was more trusting toward Silverpin and Scriberson, to be honest. I think the sudden relationship between her and Clay was strange, but I wasn't too bothered by it. But when Clay suspects that Scriberson forced Silverpin all my alarms went off, because there is no way for Scriberson to win over Silverpin, so far she was almost a wonder woman, and he simply didn't have the skills for it. Maybe he was lying all around, sure, but still... he didn't seem so possible anymore.

Also, I am happy about Joya, but yes, I think that it's almost miraculous that she is alive, I don't think there are many hopes for Derk too. (hide spoiler)]

And I agree with you about Preacher. He is blinded by his faith and I think that even his companions are a tad weary of him. It seems like they have always been cautious when interacting with him, not overtly so but still, it seems to me like there is always a divide between him and the rest of the group, and everyone is a tad more cautious with him than with any of the others.

And I fear for when the Captain will regain consciousness, because I think Hilemore is doing a great job, and I liked that he made Zenida part of the crew (in part because I like what she can add to the mix, and in part because it was the only logical thing to do to save them all) but I fear how the captain would take it.

This will be a long comment because I had some unexpected time to read so I took full advantage of it. ( Also, I don't know if I will be able to use the computer in the next couple of days, so there is that, too!)

Chapters 22-32
(view spoiler)[It happens a lot in this span (there are also a lot of chapters, so this is no surprise) but still, I feel like this whole book is more an introduction to the story than anything else.

Hilemore is still on a solitaire course, plot-wise, and I don't see how things can change before the end of the book (I am not saying it won't happen, just that I don't see how it would happen), the war is not helping matters here (but maybe it will help Lizanne with Tekela and the major because things don't look so good for them).

I also have a lot of questions: I thought that only the Blood-blessed could drink the blood of dragons, but it is not so, so what's the difference between blood-blessed and normal people? Why the dragons are behaving so strangely?
And I was hoping to get some new info about the prologue, but... no luck there, either.

We finally learn what happened with Clay's father. And now I despise the uncle even more than before. And I don't think things will change, because I am not a fan of his new obsession with the white. I think things will become quite difficult going forward since it seems like the White is not really so good for humanity. But it seems like he is linked to the Spoiled, and I am curious!

And we finally meet the Black and the woman! I want more of them because their relationship is soooo cool!

Chapters 13-21

(view spoiler)[Now I have a lot of questions about the Spoiled. And I am quite amazed that they don't really know a lot about them. It seems like they were a civilization, (and maybe they still are) so why there aren't more study? This seems like a society where knowledge is respected and cultivated, we have a lot of different academicians around so, why they don't know more? I want to know more!!

The last Hilemore chapter made me change my mind on the Captain, at least partially. It sounds like at least he is competent, or more competent than what I initially thought!
However, his chapters are still disjointed from the other two, and I can't see how his storyline would combine with the other two.

I am glad that Lizanne saved Tekela (and the major too), because for a moment I was scared that she would have to kill her or abandon her to her fate. But I am starting to mistrust Madame. She is lost in her obsession and... I don't really trust her.

And then Clay and the gang. The relationship with Silverpin came out of nowhere. I mean, I thought there was feeling between them, like more sympathy, and maybe a link was being formed, but that was pretty fast.
The man who Clay saw and who seems to keep company with drakes is... maybe the woman they are searching for?
And the drakes in general are behaving strangely, (And the Spoiled too, it seems!) I will be a bit more alarmed where I in Clay's shoes. It is all so strange!
But I am so happy to see a human who could go along with dragons because the way in which humanity threats them is shameful (hide spoiler)]

And I am curious about the Spoiled too. The name made me pity them, because being called "spoiled" is not really nice. It's not unusual as a thing, there are other books where there is a group of being that has a not so nice name but I don't know, spoiled just sound so mean to me!

And the ending of the chapter with Lizanne and Tekela was maddening! You can't end a chapter like that and then change POV, argh!!! I need to know what happens next!! (hide spoiler)]
