Here are the rest of my favorite quotes:"For the first time in Jason's life, Christ was more than the holy infant - more than a Christmas baby in a manger. e was Messiah to the Jews and humanity's Savior - the Savior that Germany and all the world so desperately needed." (Gohlke, 283)
"Family life, where each lived for the other and all lived for God, was new to her." (Gohlke, 285)
"Faith in the One who so loved all the world that He'd offered Himself as a ransom for sin was a humbling journey." (Gohlke, 303)
"Sometimes taking up our cross is doing the thing in front of us, not the glamorous, high-risk thing afar off." (Gohlke, 336)
"God will provide all that is needed. He will show you the way." (Gohlke, 356)
I just finished the book tonight! Absolutely a favorite! I also loved the reason why Heinrich stole the Christkind. I thought it was so sad when he explained to everyone, but it was so sweet at the same time coming from a child with the best of intentions.
One of my favorite scene is when Rachel decides to leave with Rivka and to leave Amelie for Leah and Friederich to raise. It must have been such a heart-wrenching choice, yet the best she could make!

I totally agree! Everything falls in place for His ultimate plan.
Ok, sorry for all the comment one after the other, but I wanted to wait to have read a little bit more before joining the conversation :)I absolutely love the book, and I'm pretty sure it's going to end up on my "favorite" shelf ^_^
I find it hard to put it down at night, especially since the chapters are so short! I always tell myself: "Oh, but the next chapter is only 7 pages..." and I end up going to bed way past my bed time ;)
So far, I have 4 favorite quotes:
"he couldn't pity her for the journey that was her own, for in it was her Father's good pleasure to give her the Kingdom." (Gohlke, 69)
"He who saves one life saves the world." (Gohlke, 74)
"But for the first time in her life she wished she did believe. She knew she was weak, and she needed help." (Gohlke, 96)
"When the Church stops standing for Jews - for anyone - then we stop being the church." (Gohlke, 163)
Jessica wrote: "So since so many connect with Lea, let's talk about the subject of jealousy. This theme runs through the whole of the book underlying the subject of eugenics and the thought that some are better t..."I have to admit I've been jealous of my friends before. But I realize I should not be! God has a specific plan for each and every single one of us. The best plan for us. Whatever happens is for His Glory and I soon realized that it wasn't fair to be jealous just because I didn't get what I waned when I wanted it. God knows best and if we surrender our life to Him, He will bless us infinitely.

I agree with Toni, the first thing to do is to lean on our Lord for strength and for direction. One of the most powerful thing to do would be to pray. To pray for discernment between what's right and wrong and to pray for the knowledge of what is our role, how we can help and what God calls us to do in this situation. The most important thing is to stay true to our faith, never lose hope and realize that with God we can make a difference!
Toni wrote: "I never read any of Bonhoeffer's writings, but this book made me want to search and look them up."Me too Toni! In fact, I had never heard of him before! Now reading Saving Amelie I want to know more about him, about his ideas and about everything he did to help other during WWII.
Jessica wrote: "QUESTION #1 Who is your favorite character so far and why? "I'm at Chapter 28, and my favorite character is Jason! I love how he struggles with his faith, but also the courage he has and how he tries to help and make a difference.
I really like when Frau Bergstrom asked him if he was just doing it for an article or for something else.
Where I'm at he really has some thinking to do and I can't wait to see what he comes up with :)
I set up a thread for books about Alzheimer's disease :)There are some recommendations that were made on Facebook, I'll add them here tomorrow :)
