In chapter 1, Kafer echoes previous attacks of the future by illustrating the inherent able-bodiedness/able-mindedness of the Child (the figure upon whom the beliefs of the future are embodied). By "cripping time," Kafer rejects the notions of disability as failure by rejecting the arc of ableist progress entirely. In light of this argument, how do we anticipate futurity in light of religious understanding? To what purpose can the future serve, if any, if we follow Kafer's point - essentially, can we envision a model of understanding the future that is not dependent on an understanding of progress as health/ability/strength (pg. 29)?
This will be the place to discuss Kafer's work! I could also see a separate topic for each chapter, if that would work better!
