Thanks for the link, Ray. I'd like to suggest Jamie O'Neill as a Celtic Scribe for his amazingly prosaic novel At Swim Two BoysSubutâ,

Liath Macha — Ir. 'gray of Macha", Cúchulainn's favorite horse. His last favorite horse was Saingliu or Dubh Sainglenn. Dubh or Dub means black or dark. I am not sure what Sainglenn means. More is known about Liath Macha, IIRCBoth were (are magical) and were born from a Gray Lake at Sliab Fúait (the highest point in the Fews Mountains) and gifted by Macha or the Morrigan with magic — the fleetest and most loyal horses of all.
Cúchulainn captured and tamed both (the 1st may have been when he was Sedanta, I don't remember) by leaping on their backs and riding them around all of Ireland for an entire day. The horses could not throw him and they became gentle.
Cúchulainn rode them bare-back as they refused tack and saddle, Liath Macha loved his master so much he shed tears of blood before Cúchulainn's final battle and the horse killed 80 enemies during the battle.
Some say he died with Cúchulainn, others that Liath Macha went back to the Gray Lake.
Hi all. I started this group after doing a search for Celtic studies and came up lacking. I did not put up a group icon or avatar because I wanted to have group input and decided to wait 'til someone asked. Thanks Jenna and Count!
I am good at taking images and turning them into web icons and have to software to do it. I am no good at creating the original artwork. I also have lots of Celtic related Clip Art.
If you come up with some pix you like email them to me (can we do this on goodreads?) and I will gather them and put them on a web site for us to vote on.
A question - What are general icons of Celtic studies, ie, not culture specific (irish, Welsh... ) and I would think pre-Christian and maybe even pre-Roman — something pan-Celtic perhaps. I tend more towards Continental Celtic studies. I also have hundreds of original pictures of Celtic coins, some which would make good avatars.
I go by Kernos, name is Bill, website is http://kernunnos.com
