I thought that by committing suicide Sheppard was sparing Caroline the publicity of a trial and his hanging. Poirot asked that Sheppard clear Paton and finish his manuscript.
Lucy Foley wrote one of the short stories in the Marple: Twelve New Stories book - Evil in Small Places. I thought it was believable as a Marple.
Judy wrote: "For anyone visiting Norwich, I found this map of 'Shardlake's Norwich' - putting it in the spoiler thread since it mentions various events and things that happen to characters in the book. I hope..."
Thank you. We were in Norwich last March and visited Strangers Hall. Our visits to Norwich usually involve me dragging husband round secondhand bookshops. Now I will have other places to show him.
Judy wrote: "Sorry to hear you're under the weather, Sonia - hope you soon feel better. Shardlake will still be there when you feel like returning to him. :)"Thank you
I have paused reading as I am a bit under the weather, nothing serious. I am hoping for a hopeful ending. I would like Shardlake to be content. He has played the hand life has dealt him well.

I was in Norwich last March and visited Tombland Books in Tombland, but didn't think of the history of the place or the book 😳

I think of them more set in the 80s, than dated. The mink and the jewels seem appropriate as they could have come from one of Mr Pargeter's 'activities'.
Susan wrote: "I am enjoying this so far. Agree, Brett is a good writer. Quick question though - I have noticed he reads his own Audible books. I'm never sure about authors reading their own books - has anyone li..."I think he is a good narrator - clear, good pacing and distinct voices. His audiobooks do pop up from time to time on YouTube if you wanted to listen to a sample.

Frances wrote: "Also, for those using an audiobook, is it Par-jetter or Par-geter (hard g)? Or something else?"It is the j sound. The audiobooks pop up from time to time on YouTube. They are read by the author Simon Brett.

For some reason I've resisted this series, but looking at the synopsis I don't know why no..."Hope you do, and I think the series gets better as we get to know her late husband's associates.
