May Book (3 new)

177657 I finished the book yesterday. It is not my kind of book. I felt like she just kept going over the same subject matter. Here again is a book that could have been written in about half the pages. I actually was more confused after having read it. Did she actually prove to herself that there is a GOD? I go back to my first husband's statement that "there are no atheists in foxholes" when the shells are raining down. He spent 3 years in the jungles of Vietnam so he should know. Like a lot of people until something happens to you, only then do you embrace religion. There are too many things that happen in our world that can only be explained by believing in GOD. The wonderful thing about our world is it doesn't matter how long it takes you to bow your head and ask God's forgiveness, it is yours for the asking. So I hope everyone enjoys the book more than I did. Don't let my negative comments keep you from reading it. Rita

177657 The fact that his parents were well off and entertained a variety of people, they traveled and the children were exposed and encouraged to participate in adult discussions. He was well educated and had a strong personality and was taught to analyze situations before he formed his opinions. This book is not what you would call "light" reading. I find myself with my dictionary on my lap as there are a number of words whose meaning I do not know. I am up to chapter 15 and my chapter a day is working out well. I do not know that I would have read this book on my own, however I am now finding it quite interesting.

177657 Whatever works for the group is okay by me. I have to say that I had to make myself read the first chapter. I intend to read a chapter a day until I finish. It has gotten somewhat better but so far not my kind of book.
February Book (14 new)

177657 For Naomi it was the death of her husband and then her sons so she was dependent upon her daughter-in-laws. She must of felt so alone except for her strong faith. For Ruth of course it was the death or her husband. She saw how strong Naomi's faith was and she wanted to know more. The fact that she left her own people to take Naomi back to her homeland speaks volumes about her own character as well as her love for her mother-in-law.

One of my life changing events was when I woke up after surgery and was paralyzed from the hips down 4 years ago from a crushed spinal cord. Struggling with coming to terms that I might be a paraplegic for the rest of my life you learn humility pretty fast but you also find out just how strong you are both physically and mentally. I also had to deal with several blood clots in my lungs. That night they had just put me in ICU and I told my husband I would be okay and not to make the long drive. Somehow in that moment I just knew that God was watching out for me. You learn to accept what you cannot change. With God's help you work to improve what you can.

177657 I have just finished the book and am passing it along to Dana to read. The thing that impressed me is that she makes these people of the bible seem like real people with real problems. They come alive in the stories and you can actually picture them. Once I started the first story I could not put it down. Happy reading everyone.

177657 I finished the book in two days and now am reading it a second time more slowly. I have a tendency to read very fast so want to digest it at a more leisurely pace. Of course I was a teenager in the 60's and it was a slower more innocent time, especially when you come from a small town where everyone knows everybody. Looking forward to the discussion. It does conflict with soul sippers.
