I simply LOVE overly complicated plans which fall short just an inch of really succeeding but also don't really fail. The Thorn of Camorr is a brilliant figure and his plan to robb the palace is a joy to follow. After putting the book aside when finished with reading it i couldn't wait for part two and even if i didn't like Red Seas quite so much i still am curious how the story of the Bastards will continue.
Well over much of the pages/chapters i thought that Locke and Jean were literally very much out of their own water, as the setting with the pirates and ships did not give them much place for their scheming which in the first book was IMO the best part of the story. It got a little bit better in the end, but overall it just felt like i had awaited to read another book than was written by Lynch and so my disappointment was quite substantial with the volume.
But after all ... rather a mediocre book one could read, than a supreme one which never will come out. I've been following Lynchs Blog since finishing the reading of "lies" and the last Livejournal entries don't sound too good for the future works of his.
