Wow, good question. I like character driven stories and I think dialogue does that better but I need enough narrative to "see' a scene. I also like a fast paced story. I guess whatever it is narrative or dialogue it needs to move the story forward.
I don't go but not from any bad memories. I've just moved on and have a very full life. I'm still close friends with my then and now best friend. I married a guy I've known most of my life. I guess doing the group, party think just isn't my thing.
Our cat and dog are so much a part of our lives that it is natural for me to enjoy a story that includes them. Abby could have her own book herself. She's such a character. Everyone knows her, she makes sure of it.
I love to write in the hero's POV hey it's fiction. What about the paranormals? Is a male warewolf or vamp out side a human male? I think maybe so at least some. Like Victor I don't think I could write in depth but I read (and write) for enjoyment so I don't get into really deep theory or technical areas. If I ever do I'll write what I've personally experienced or do a whole lot of research.
Yep. I have google alert for "Lavada" and there are more than I would have imagined. Unfortunately a lot are obituaries which makes me think the name may be an old one. Still, not a common name. When I published I chose to use my real first name 'Lavada' and my middle name 'Dee'. I reasoned I wouldn't forget it that way. So far it works though I did have someone tell me it sounded like a stripper name.
Fern Michaels wrote one and though I wanted a different ending it was really the best one in the end. I can't remember the title now but it was a great story.
The Host was a slow starter but it was so good I forgot about the start until two other people pointed it out to me. Well worth reading further on this one.
My writing process is in a constant stage of change. I'm a guest blogger on Donna Hatches blog today at http://donnahatch.blogspot.com/ The interview says a lot about the processes I've went through. Right now I'm doing the 100/100 club with my writing chapter. We've been holding it annually and it's do 100 words a day for 100 days. It really works to get me into a daily writing habit.
I'm a die-hard Patterson fan also and love the short chapters. Not sure every author could carry them off but I'd go short rather than so real long ones. Lavada
Things like this always seem so far away when you read them in the news. Like they could never happen to us. Well us is them and reading something like the post from Ruby brings it home. I have to admire writers that can write about heart wrenching personal tragedy. I tried a couple of time but ended up crying myself to sleep. I do okay during the day, its that time between bed and sleep I don't do well with. Well maybe not so much during the day either.
My heart goes out to you Ruby and to all the others.

I laughed when I read where you say 'figure out how the heck it got published'. You know it was books like these, that I read all the way through, that got me to writing. I just knew I could do better. On the flip side, even now I feel a little despair when I read a really great story and think I want to write like this or wish I'd thought of the plot.
I never ever used to, but I do now. I stick them out for quite awhile though. I just have to make sure. Lavada Dee
