I tend to like it when the characters have to deal with everyday stresses like raising a family, mortages, job conflicts, and others while having to struggle with his/her major conflict, and it doesn't matter if the book is supernatural or mystery or thriller or horror.

I would think that the best way for an author to get respect is to intend to write complementary or general fiction and let the genres pigeon-hole where they may. While I tend to be drawn to horror stories, my first goal is to write a story, period.

I don't think: I will write a horror romance novel about deaf people versus hearing people.

I think: Since I have a fantasy of a beautiful girl with a nice body who will come to me and take care of me, and love me for who I am and let me put her in a strange world where those who can't fit in or can't keep up with the strict equilibrilum are put into government run institutions and have them somehow meet...That is more than enough to get me to writing my second novel.

Juliet, that's a pretty good topic and one I have been thinking about on the surface. The examples I could think of is very widespread from Jose Saramago's Blindness, Elizabeth Hand's horrifying classic, Winterlong, and Cormac McCarthy's The Road. They all write complementary fictions and these books somehow fall into the maligned compartment of 'horror'

I tend to use ellipses when I need to leave out things that I hint at using only three dots and for deliberate pauses, four dots. The three dots is usuaully when I leave out some words or sentences that the reader could guess at.

I tend to favor the most realistic vampire books. I have been talking about this book, . It is one of the best books about vampire I have ever read next to Salemn's Lot. It goes above and beyound what Meyer did with Twilight.

I don't really read Robert Parker novels now. I do feel he is writing a bit thin like James Patterson, and relying on his only writing skill and name to sell his book. Maybe my tastes changed with age...

I tend to follow James Lee Burke's detective Rouxieaux (sp) novels, and Robert B. Parker, Spenser novels, along with Harry Potter. I think part of what sells them is the characters themselves because when I read them I grow to care about them and want to know more about their lives. Also I think it is like comfort food or security blanket in terms of you know what to expect in the serial novels.

Yeah, I agree that you have to make the time to write not find the time. I tend to be erratic about it, like fifteen minutes here and there, but mostly Saturday morning to afternoon. And from eleven to one a.m..

Yeah...I slam my head into the wall when I find out I misspelled words like envelop as envelope. Maybe next time, I might take a running start because that's how mad at myself I get when it comes to screwing up my novel.

You might try the Writer's Market and keep sending out manuscript of your book to the publishing companies. There's no easy way to make it as a writer. Or start a website and put your book on it and then promote your website for free and then win viewers over. Good luck with your book.

I usually am drawn to the concept of what's happening in the book, and if the first few sentences grabbed my attention and sustained it in varying degrees.
