This is my first time organizing something quite this big so bear with me if I've forgotten something! LOL Thanks guys! I'm so excited!!! Now, who's coming???

Basically I think the poor editing (Kindle edition), lack of character development, rushed feel of the novella length (approx 150 pages), lack of an intertwining story line in the series besides club membership and the academic approach to a specific kink in each book rather than being story or character driven minimizes the passion and romance for me.
I may re-read it in a week or two to see if I feel differently and clearly my opinion is in the minority because the reviews are very good and none mention the editing or brevity.
I'm still a Laura Kaye fan, I've met her several times and she's awesome, she came to my book club for America's First Daughter with Steph Dray and always has time for her fans when she does signings and Q&As.
Please feel free to disagree and tell me how wrong I am! We need to get discussion started on this board for it to continue and thrive!

It's been Boat Show for the last two weeks in Annapolis (home of a certain college psychologist character) so I've been working non-stop but today I've started reading Bound to Submit!
Would love to see some opinions on this one from others in this group! You can post links to your reviews for the book or comments by chapter or in general. Whatever you like! Since the author is a member of this group you never know when she might answer a question or throw one out herself!

I'll be working the US Sailboat Show so make sure y'all post any good insider information or comments you have about Hard to Serve here for those of us that can't make it!

September 17, Mile High Author Event, Denver, CO
September 23-25, Baltimore Book Festival

So I'll throw in my suggestions:
*Some surprising people that live the lifestyle, like a professional athlete or local celebrity or minister that could lose their career if discovered.
*Some romance along with the kink b/c really to form a loving, lasting relationship there has to be some wooing going on outside the club as well. Even a Sub has freewill and can tell a Dom they aren't interested, right?
*A common denominator besides lifestyle like the suspense aspect in Hard Ink which was awesome!
*A look into how they live the lifestyle outside of the club and its impact on their relationships with family, friends and even if they have kids how they deal with that. Maybe its used against someone in a custody fight or maybe a 2nd generation to the lifestyle character...
*A Domme to represent the ladies even if it's a secondary character someone needs to show that not all women are submissive.

Welcome Aline!
We need some participation to keep this page going ladies! Please feel free to start a conversation or make comments about your favorite book or any of the other topics in this group.

Q: Are there any characters/couples that you'd like to do a follow-up story about? On ReadHard the LK fan group on GoodReads there was a discussion about wanting more on Easy & Jenna...
Laura Kaye: They could totally use a follow-up couldn't they? :)
Woot!

*for the giveaway you had to use #readhard…awesome! Giveaway is now closed
BLASPHEMY SERIES
#1 Bound To Submit – first of the Blasphemy series will be out on 9.13
There will be a lot of books in the series!
#2 Mastering Her Senses – sensory deprivation is the kink, the heroine will be the sister of one of the Raven Riders
RAVEN RIDERS SERIES
#3 Slider’s story (the widower with kids) and Cora (Haven’s friend) Ride Wild is the title
Forced proximity/nanny situation
Q: Have you figured out what you’re wearing to JR Ward’s house? (She's on her way to Louisville for the JR Ward event and got invited to her home too!)
A: No. 1. Her friends are wearing something similar to what she’d been planning to wear 2. JR Ward suggested they wear yoga pants!
Q: How many books in the new series?
A: Blasphemy 10 – 12 b/c there will be a menage story with two Doms and the Dom that is already married may get a novella. Raven Riders 3 titles sold but she has 5 plotted out.
Q: Which of her books would she suggest for a new reader?
A: Hard As It Gets the first in the Hard Ink series or Hearts in Darkness
Q: Have you done research at a BDSM club?
A: No but it would be fun!
Q: Sequel to Forever Freed?
A: Probably not but she’s does know the story and title.
Q: Who was her favorite hero that she’s written?
A: Marco (Her Forbidden Hero) b/c he had her head injury so she identified with him
Caden (Hearts in Darkness) b/c he stole her heart and that book turned into more than she expected
Nick Rixey (Hard As It Gets) b/c there’s a lot of her in Nick and he’s got a chip on his shoulder but a heart of gold.
*America’s First Daughter, historical fiction she appreciates when her romance fans give it a try!
*Marz (Hard To Come By) inspired by Alex Minsky (model, Vet, amputee, heart of gold kind of guy) and also inspired by a story about a below the knee amputee that went back to serve
*Contemporary stuff seems to be popular right now but she’d like to go back to paranormal and she’d like to try writing Scottish Highlanders.
Q: In Hard to Serve, Master Leo’s eyes are two different colors was that a nod to Qhuinn from the BDB?
A: No. She’s long been interested in characters w/ 2 different eye colors! In other books characters with 2 different eye colors are Owen North of Need, Heroine in one of her Vampire books.
Funny Excerpt from Ride Rough
• Look forward to Llama and Hedgehog stuffed animal giveaways…Llamaswag!
April’s Fool FB post about adopting a mini-donkey…lots of people believed her and ask about it! There’s no Henry the mini donkey!
Join her reader group on Facebook!
Q: Was Easy’s story hard to write?
A: Yes. You can’t write a military story and not address the reality of suicide among vets and active duty military. Challenging head space to get into while writing. Within a romance you can’t have the love and romantic affair cure the person and figure you have to figure out how far you can get them emotionally while being believable and also be sensitive to people going through it in real life. Love in the Light had some of the same challenges.
Q: Do you still teach?
A: No as of 2013 she left teaching at the United States Naval Academy
Q: What other authors do you enjoy reading?
A: A Lot! Tessa Bailey best dirty talking heroes
Rebecca Yarros Flight and Glory – is so amazing, blew her mind!
Jennifer Probst
JR Ward she read the Bourbon Kings two weeks ago adored it and read The Beast (reward for finishing Ride Rough) just finished yesterday.
Q: Do you outline?
A: No, she usually writes the back cover first. She sees the big things but not the connective tissue until she’s right up on it. Will jot down scenes she knows are coming up.
Q: E books or hard copy?
A: Combination, she was reading on her phone but her eyesight has changed in the last three months. She’ll need to switch to an iPad or hard copy of books now.
Q: What are her most precious signed books?
A: JR Ward signed a copy of “Hard as it Gets” which says “To Laura, I’m a Big Fan. Love Jess PS You are the shit!”
Sexy Excerpt from Ride Rough
*Night Rod Special sexiest motorcycle ever
*Includes sex on the motorcycle
*Alexa gets her pants cut off her
*Laura’s only ride on a motorcycle was when she was 10. Her uncle was 18 and purposely tried to scare her and succeeded.
Q: Favorite writing snack?
A: She doesn’t snack much anymore. Crackers, cheese its, wheat thins. She got out of the habit. In 2014 she lost 55 pounds. Tries to continue with the healthy lifestyle.
Q: Do you listen to music while writing?
A: Yes. She picks one song for each book and listens to it on repeat throughout the entire writing and editing. The song represents the Tone or feel of the book of something about the characters backstory. Didn’t start doing it until Her Forbidden Hero. Now when she listens to one song on repeat it becomes white noise and helps her focus.
*She had braces for 6 years and has arthritis/TMJ so she’s not a gum chewer.
*Sound of Silence by Disturbed is the song for Slider’s book Ride Wild, represents how he feels in her head to her. It’s a ballad and a remake of a classic.

Laura said something about wrapping up the Hard Ink story line for the Raven Riders in the next book of the RRs series. My guess would be that referred to the gangs in Baltimore but who knows?! Seneka could resurface in the future but my feeling was (view spoiler)

So I looked it up in this book and the following ones and (view spoiler) No mentions in Hard Ever After or Hard As Steel of him so that's a great question!

Can we just talk about the top thingy Kenna is wearing? HOT!"
He was definitely intriguing in Hard to Serve! Any guesses as to what Griffin and Kenna's kink may be?
