When I started this project in early 2017, I never thought I’d end up with more than a hundred members of this Squad – a Squad which consists of all the cops/ex-cops (and ex PIs) I’ve been able to find who have turned their hands to writing crime fiction. We now have 122 members - that's 122 cops and ex-cops producing crime fiction. You won't get more realistic crime tales than those from this Squad!
Our Squad now consists of:
59 American, 33 British, 9 Australian, 5 Canadian, 3 Finnish, 3 New Zealanders, 2 Dutch, 2 Swedish, 1 French, 1 Bahamian, 1 Norwegian, 1 Italian, 1 Czech, & 1 Russian.
I'll keep adding more as I come across them, and if you know of any others please feel free to drop me a line.
Check out The Squad:

And please remember, my list is only for CRIME FICTION - not all the true crime and/or memoir writing by cops and ex-cops that's out there (as good as so much of that is).
Cheers,
ABP
And with 2 new members of the group, we now have 21.So the updated list stands at 11 from the US, 4 from Australia, 5 from the UK, and 1 from France.
Happy realistic crime reading!
Cheers, ABP
And the second of my two new discoveries. Also joining my U.S. team, Mary Burton King worked with the US Navy and in particular the NCIS.
The first of two new discoveries this weekend in my quest to find cops who write crime. Ryan Sayles joins my U.S. team. He's a former police officer from Kansas.
I've put together all 19 cops writing crime I could find - please see the 3 blog pieces I've written.Happy realistic crime reading!
Cheers,
ABP
It's been a while since I found a new addition to the club, but here is Mr Mitchell from Glasgow! Writing great fiction and a former officer with Strathclyde Police in Scotland.
Hi All,And I've found a new addition in my recent research. Caroline Mitchell is a former UK police officer, and now a very successful crime writer, as well as paranormal fiction.Don't Turn Around
Hi All,Whilst still having issues with another aspect of my Goodreads account, the very helpful staff there have reconnected me with the posts I couldn't find, so back on track.
I'll now keep posting.
Cheers,
Andrew
Hi All,Probably part of the problem I'm having with my Goodreads account, and still unresolved, but all my previous posts (apart from the first on 04 Sept) appear to have gone. Does anyone have them?
Cheers,
Andrew
Hi All,I am back! My sincere apologies for a few weeks of silence - life events intervened for a while. Plus been having issues with my Goodreads account - stuff disappearing - still unrelieved, although they tell me they are working to sort out the bug in their systems. Seems I am not the only one!
Anyhow, do we have any more names for cops writing crime to add to our list?
Cheers,
Andrew
Hi All,Just to let you know that my first Goodreads giveaway for Harry's World started a few hours ago, so please feel free.
Cheers,
Andrew

Are there any more out there you can think of???

Hi Dawn,And welcome to our fledgling group! I think we are in for some great discussion, and lots of discovery of new authors. Even in setting it up over the last few days, I've been introduced to several new ex-cop authors already.
Cheers, Andrew

I think this will be a nice group. I'm not a LEO, just the wife of one. I love reading all sorts of books and when I read most that have any police stuff in them I find that many are n..."
Hi Paula,I wish your son well in getting in to the force to follow what he wants to do. Whilst I wouldn't want to go back into it now (but I am in my 50s!) I look back with a lot of great memories. Despite the bad eggs that tarnish a police force's name, it remains an honourable and worthwhile profession. I have a lot of respect for the bulk of street level cops, both uniform and detective. My views of senior police tends to be somewhat less complimentary! Perhaps an item for further discussion in the group as we go on.

Wow, I guess you did see some of the worst. Government corruption that can always provide good material for an author.

Well, we've made it to a list of 15 ex-cops writing crime fiction already. The list has given me a whole lot of fresh names, so hopefully it's doing the same for you. I'll give it a few more days to get the list bedded down (hoping there may be some more inclusions), and then I'll start throwing out some discussion ideas and seeking suggestions.A couple of side notes from the suggestion messages I had...
A couple of author names were mentioned for their crime novels, but they were lawyers by background, and not ex-cops at all, so I'm afraid they didn't get included. And there was a German ex-cop, Josef Wilfling, mentioned. I did a bit of research and, aside from all his books being in German only, they all appear to be non-fiction, so he couldn't be included either.
Anyway, I reckon 15 is great start.
Keep those names coming!!!
Cheers, Andrew
And another American, thanks to Skye this time for another name for our list, Sunny Frazier. Plenty to choose from so again at random I've picked one (loved the title), Where Angels Fear
Back the USA and thanks to Debbie for this addition to our list, Rick Reed. I've picked one at random, The Cruelest Cut
