Well, we spent time with Corbin after the "reveal". Prior to that though, much of our time with Corbin 2-: front he captains perspective. But mostly it seemed like he was out of sight out of mind unless he was arguing with someone. And Corbin never started the arguments. He just refused to let go unless he got the apology he felt he deserved. Which no one ever gave him. Except Rosemary.

So I finished. I agree that it was episodic and preachy. I realized there was no plot a little over half way through and I decided I was okay with that - the main characters were enjoyable. Never got to attached to anyone because we never really spend enough time with any one person, but I did get a little teary when Rosemary approached Sissix after learning she they were her feather family.

Again, I was incredibly annoyed by that missed transmission from Nib, and even more so after the events Hedra Ka, because it was completely unnecessary.

Anyway, it was enjoyable and I'll probably read the next book, but it wasn't exciting or even what I would call fun. More like a pleasant ride.

Mikhail, re: rich guy going to jail
So, I found this to believable for two reasons 1) humans are super low in the GC higherarchy and 2) he was messing in the affairs of a species that the GC is currently trying to negotiate with. He was probably able to get away with it for so long because nobody really cared.

So, I didn't dislike Corbin. I did sort of feel that we were supposed to dislike him because of his "speciest" comments, but it was all so one-sided. We're bouncing around from one pov to another, but never his. So I had to reserve judgment.

Mikhail, I agree with you. I think the book's greatest strength is that these are people I wouldn't mind being around. Although, they might all be a bit too perfect...hard to say.

I find this undelivered message annoying. I'm assuming that this is foreshadowing. I hate this type of foreshadowing and it makes me want to stop reading until I forget.

Haven't read all the comments yes, but the crew is gathering around the dinner table, talking about porn and shoes... I feel like I could live with these people.
