Hey guys! So as some of you may already know, I have finally finished this book! And I am having so many feelings for this book lol. As all of us have finished reading the book, would you guys like to continue the routine we have (discussing set chapters each week) or should we just get down to how we felt about the book overall (mostly mentioning the last few chapters of the book?)
Let me know what you guys think! :)

As much I love Aelin, I agree. Whenever I think of her character so far in the book, I can only think of her moments with Rowan. In the beginning when she made that promise to Darrow, I thought, yup, she is going to kick some ass like Celeana. But sadly, I haven't see that kind of action (I also want to see her fight more with her weapons than her magic). I miss the sarcastic, badassery of Celeana :(
Hey guys! So now we're going to discuss chapters 31-40. These were my thoughts on the chapters:So Aedion finally meets his father. And I totally get why he would be angry because he felt his father had just abandoned his mother and him to survive on their own. Again, I loved how supportive and loyal Lysandra was to Aedion.
I was actually surprised that Rolfe was more than just a pirate lord, but the last heir of the mycenians (the sea dragons) which sounds pretty cool. These few chapters were mostly about the battle with the valg which Aelin alerts deliberately with her pulse of power to get Rolfe to help. Which worked. I liked seeing the group's formation like Aedion and Dorian being in the watchtowers whilst Lysandra shifted into a sea dragon to attack the sea wyverns (I love how she freaked out Gavriel and fenrys with her form).
That moment when Aelin was going deep into her power and accidentally used the wyrdkey was intense. Especially when the goddess Deanna decides to sneak into Aelin's body and talk in riddles lol. Although Aelin did break out of her hold, her power still hit some of the innocents which sucks.
It then became even more intense when Lysandra was on her own, fighting the sea wyverns (and then their parents lol). Gosh, it was just hard to read because I didn't want Lysandra to die and SJM was making it sound like she was going to die so I was stuck between despair and hope lol. However, I did love how she kicked their asses and how Aedion just killed one of the wyverns with an awesome aim.
Omg it was so sweet when Aedion rushed to Lysandra and promised her that he would marry her but only when she was ready. I seriously love their relationship <3
And then. It happened. On the beach. Aelin and Rowan getting... close lol. I have to admit, I did get uncomfortable with the details of that scene. The details did go a step further than what I'm used to. Not the kinda image I want in my head lol. But at least they let out their 'frustration' lmao.
I'm also glad that Abraxos got Manon to the gang. Now someone can heal her after how long her wound has been open.
So what were your thoughts? :D
Hey guys! Hope you are well. Here are my thoughts on the chapters this week:So in Chapter 21, we find out that Duke Perrington and the other adarlan lords/ladies are now considering Dorian their enemy (which is not a surprise. I doubt these people even cared about Dorian). And Hollin is now the crown prince and Perrington's heir which is worrying, considering what kind of a person he is lol. But that's kinda expected considering whose heir he is.
We also find out that Maeve is sending an armada to Eyllwe which to me, suggests that she possibly knows about what is in the stone marshes, though I don't know how (maybe from Erawan if she is working with him?). She has also sent Gavriel and Fenrys to kill Lorcan. Gavriel finds out from Rowan that he has a son (Aedion). It'll be interesting when Aedion and him meet (I doubt it's gonna be a warm meeting lol).
I found it kinda creepy when Manon came across that Bloodhound creature. Erawan has a seriously disturbing mind when you look at the creatures he's been creating, like the ilken lol. Btw did anyone find it cute when Manon called Abraxos a 'mother hen'?
I loved how Aelin was just waiting in Rolfe's office and how she played around with his emeralds. That was classic. I also loved how there was two of her (I was confused at first how that could be but then I remembered that Lysandra is a shapeshifter so yeah). I just loved how she kept winding Rolfe up. It reminded me of the Celeana I loved in the previous books.
I also loved Aedion's and Lysandra's conversation and how understanding she was about him being reluctant to meet his father. It was sweet when he asked her to come along with him. Though, I did feel he was a bit harsh about Dorian. I get that Dorian's father had murdered his family but Dorian had nothing to do with it (Dorian even killed his own father because of what he had done) so I feel like he should cut Dorian some slack.
There was another Elide and Lorcan moment. Lorcan was pretty direct to Elide when he told her to sleep without her clothes lol. But he now knows that Elide is hiding something so I hope he doesn't try to steal it from her. I think it was interesting here to see how Elide was a bit reluctant in him going his separate way, I think because she's been alone for a while, she likes having company, even if it's with him. And also, because those creatures are after her, she will need him to protect her from those creatures in terms of combat.
And that's all for now. What did you guys think? Also, do any of you guys miss Celeana? :)
Hey guys! This week, we will be discussing chapters 21-30. Happy reading and talk to you guys on Sunday! :)
Amanda wrote: "Hey! So here are my thoughts:1. I agree, the chapters relative to Manon certainly start to move things along and I'm so happy to see her move against her grandmother finally, I've been waiting to..."
I get what you mean about Manon and Asterin's bond! Whenever I think of someone whom Manon is the closest to, I always think of Asterin. I thought that maybe they would get together but I wasn't sure coz they're supposed to be cousins and I thought that would have been weird. But now that Manon knows about her true heritage, who knows, maybe they might get closer :)
Abraxos has always reminded me of toothless! Especially with how protective he is of Manon. I agree with you about SJM making characters who refuse to break. It just shows as well that no matter what someone has gone through, they can still move on and have better, happy lives :D
Hey guys! Here's what I thought about the chapters this week:So the chapters increased the intensity a notch. Chapter 11 made me seriously worried lol, when Manon's grandmother wanted to punish Manon for killing Iskra's sentinel. I knew what was coming lol. I knew she wanted Manon to kill Asterin since she was going on about it being 'equal' when we all know she already doesn't like Asterin.
And was it intense on chapter 17 when Manon had to kill Asterin. I admit, I did get emotional at this part because I didn't know whether Manon was going to kill Asterin or not (but I knew in my head that Manon wouldn't). Man, does SJM know how to make it intense until the very end of the chapter, when Manon attacks her grandmother. That was a pretty badass move.
And omg, we find out Manon's true heritage and how the Crochan she killed was her own half sister. So horrible. I did not expect that, even though I knew Manon wasn't born heartless. I hope she does sort her grandmother out later in the book.
Also, we find out another clue about the wyrdkeys when Brannon visits Aelin and tells her to find a lock in the stone marshes that would combine the keys to rebuild the gate so that Aelin can close it. Very interesting and funny how he just randomly disappeared.
I was surprised to hear about Aedion being envious about Aelin and Rowan's relationship but I guess that's expected since all Aedion has done in his life is help rebuild Terrasen and find his cousin. I think it would be nice if Aedion thought about himself and what he wants in his life since Rowan did take his blood oath.
I really liked in chapter 19, how Elide cleverly gets herself and Lorcan into a carnival troupe. I'm liking how she doesn't depend on Lorcan so much and is her own person.
And that's all for now. What did you guys think? :D
Hey guys! So now we will be discussing chapters 11-20 for this week.Hope I get a chance to continue reading the book since my university starts this week and I have some set books I need to read for my literature module. Wish me luck lol.
Anyway, happy reading and see you guys on Sunday :)
I almost forgot about that 'hello witching' part so thanks Amanda for reminding me lol. I'm glad Dorian is getting his sense of humour back considering what he's been through. Even though we have seen some interaction between Manon and Dorian, I can't really see them as an item.I guess Aelin's court are a dysfunctional family in a sense lol, but I love seeing how close they are.
I was actually surprised that Lorcan helped Elide but I loved how she saved herself by acting like Manon towards those creepy ilken. It made me really like Elide's character. I agree with what you said, Cat, about their pairing. That's why I was surprised because I thought maybe Manon and Elide's relationship was going to develop. However, I don't mind because I feel like Manon is trying to come to terms with her emotions and it may have been unrealistic if she was thrust into a relationship. But that doesn't mean I don't want her to be in a relationship in the future lol :D
I also agree about Aelin and Rowan. At the moment, I feel like I'm slightly more interested in other pairings rather than theirs which could be because of their sexual tension. I still love them but I want to see less of the sexual tension which is probably not going to happen.
I understand what you mean about the powers too. I think the water power is from her mother or father's side (can't remember) but a bit more explanation into how she can use both contrasting powers would be good. Maybe more of Aelin mastering her water power would be good too. I always forget she can use her water power because there is always mention of her fire lol.
Thank you guys for your comments! It's nice to see varying opinions of the book. Makes it interesting :)
Hey guys! It's time to discuss what we read so far! I'll start off with what I thought:So, first, I really liked how we had like a prologue in the beginning showing the moment when Elena and Gavin have to face Erawan. I felt this was needed anyway since it was revealed in queen of shadows that they didn't kill Erawan but trapped him. I liked seeing Elena and Gavin's relationship and how much they cared about each other (I'm a sucker for romance so yeah lol).
It was nice being reunited with the characters and seeing Lysandra stay in her ghost leopard form for a bit. I've already come across someone I don't like and it is that Lord Darrow guy. It's kinda funny how he's come out of nowhere and is suddenly calling the shots. Even though I thought Aelin would have just taken up her throne, it was understandable why the people of terrasen are sceptical about her being queen (though Lord Darrow was really harsh, especially with lysandra). Now that we know Aelin has to gather allies, I do hope she seeks the silent assassin's help.
Also, Rifthold gets attacked by the witches. I'm glad nothing happened to Dorian and that Manon and Rowan saved him :)
It was also interesting to see Lorcan and Elide meeting up and interacting. I can feel a relationship brewing between them. That's a pairing I didn't see coming lol. But I'm looking forward to seeing their relationship develop.
So that's what I mainly found interesting from what I read. What are your first impressions of Empire of storms? :D
Hey guys! So this is where we will be discussing our thoughts on chapters for this week. But first, I want to explain our reading arrangement. Every week, we will be reading 10 chapters (roughly 2 chapters a day) and then at the end of the week (Sunday), we will discuss our thoughts so far on those chapters. If you have read the set chapters and have time until our discussion, you can read ahead but please keep in mind that we will be discussing ONLY the chapters we have been set to read as no one likes to be spoiled, right?
So for this week, we will be reading and discussing chapters 1-10.
Any questions? If not, then happy reading! :)
Amanda wrote: "Definitely agree with you on Aedion and Lysandra, I can see that happening too!Besides that I'm thinking we will see..
- Manon exploring emotions more. I think there will be some event that spark..."
A lot of interesting predictions. I can't believe I forgot to mention Elide and Aelin's reunion. That is definitely gonna be emotional. I think that Crochan Manon killed was telling the truth, that witches like Manon were made to be heartless, not born. If it wasn't true, how is Manon getting close to Abraxos?
I also think Manon is going to turn against her grandmother, especially after finding out what actually happened to Asterin. Ikr, I am hoping Dorian doesn't get hurt more. He has been through enough lol.
Cat wrote: "hello hello!I seriously don't know what to expect from this book. the only thing I'm almost sure is that Rowan and Aelin are going to have sex :v"
Lmao. From how intimate it became between them in QOS, I wouldn't be surprised. There's also a warning on the back cover saying 'mature content' which is something I usually dread to hear lol :)
Hey guys! So I thought it would be interesting to write down our predictions for what may happen or what we want to happen in Empire of Storms. I'll start off!- Aelin seeks help from the silent assassins as they would be badass allies to have at her side in this war.
- Manon helps Aelin (probably will happen from what SJM hinted at).
- Mention of Ansel- I think she might be the queen of the high wastes that was mentioned in one of the previous books.
- Aedion and Lysandra become a couple (I can see it happening lol).
- Chaol gets fully healed (this needs to happen).
And that's all for now. What are your predictions for Empire of Storms?
