201703 Identify significant moments in the text. Why are they important? Evidence
In the nonfiction book, “The Inventors Time” by Dan Driscoll and James Zigarelli, an important moment in the book is when Thomas Alva Edison invents the lightbulb. In 1879, Edison invented a lightbulb that would change the way people lived. Although some did not believe in this and continued to use gas lamps but some did shift into using the light bulb. The text states, “But what will the big gas companies do?” (5). This invention was significant because the standard oil company had gained a monopoly due to its uses encompassing the gas lamp. The light bulb would then take over the gaslamp and could greatly affect their companies. Unlike the gaslamp, the light bulb never ran out like the gaslamp did and more people would stop buying from oil companies. Therefore, a significant moment in the text is when Edison creates the light bulb.

201703 What motivates your character?
In Cassandra Clare’s fantasy novel City of Heavenly fire, what motivates the Seelie Queen is having power. While, the shadowhunters are trying to stop Sebastian, they make alliances with downworlders such as vampires and werewolves. They believe that they have a good bond with the faeries, but the Seelie Queen and the faeries are with Sebastian, for he is on the winning side. Sebastian says, “You were a fool to trust her, little sister. She likes to be on the winning side of things, the Seelie Queen. And that side will be ours, Clary. Ours” (344). What this quote is getting at is that unlike those who side with the “good guys,” the Seelie Queen doesn’t care about that. She wants to have power and she wants to torture humans and let the faeries rule the world instead of humans, which don’t know anything of the shadowworld.

What is an important choice or action your character made?
In Cassandra Clare’s fiction novel City of Lost souls by Cassandra Clare, an important action my character made was Sebastian binding himself to Jace with Lilith’s binding rune. Sebastian, the antagonist, binds himself to Jace, the main protagonist, meaning that whatever damage is done to either of them, damage is reflection to the other. Jace is forced to follow whatever Sebastian does and says and can’t get himself out of the spell. On page 69 Alec says, “‘If Jace is possessed, the Clave will kill him themselves. We can’t tell them anything.”’ This moment is impactful because this is showing that Clary and her friends have a finite amount of options regarding how they can defeat the antagonist without hurting Jace. This is even more crucial because Clary and Jace are in a romantic relationship and she won’t do anything to put him in harm allowing Sebastian to take advantage of the playing field to defeat the Shadowhunters.
