201844 1. What are the driving conflicts of the novella?
2. Choose a character--how is that character impacting the overall plot?
The driving conflicts in the story are Edna's discovering herself and herself and her independence as a women. There are some problems though as when it comes to her independence. She lives in a society where it is hard to meet society's expectations. The society thinks that women should only serve to take care of their children and husbands. The reason this is a conflict is cause Edna is discovering who she is. Not only that but her husband isn't around to understand what is going on with her and why she is changing. This can lead to Edna having a affair with Alcee Arobin cause she is lacking the love and support from her husband and Alcee is giving her the attention she desires. The reason Alcee Arobin is impacting the overall novela is because he is starting something with Edna. Not only is there a spark between them. He is making Edna confused about who she is and what she wants. This leads to her to making decisions outside of society's standards. The reason he is impacting the plot is because he is pursuing the main character. He is causing the main characters decisions to impact the overall plot of the story.
