I've been reading the Green Lantern books for some time now and Blackest Night has turned out to be a blast. After seeing all of the carnage being wrought in the DCU I'm interested in seeing how this Blackest Night thing turns out.I'm not picking up all of the offshoots (BN: Teen Titans, BN: Batman for example) but am following the Blackest Night minis that tie into titles I already get. Haven't read Blackest Night Superman #1 yet.
I liked the first Hellboy movie and I also liked this one. Hellboy 2 has more quiet moments and a less frenetic pace. I was very bummed they got rid of the John Myers character. He was a nice bit of humanity amongst the weirdness.I wouldn't characterize the movies as a "total detachment" from the comics but they are most definitely different. The Hellboy animated movies match more closely with the comic book canon. But, as you say, Hellboy movie canon is its own beast. Not a bad beast IMO, just different.
I believe it's going to be an animated movie much like Superman Doomsday and Batman: Gotham Knight. There's a preview of it on the Gotham Knight DVD. It looks decent...basically a retelling of her origin story.
Finally read the Wanted trade paperback and saw the movie this week. I liked the trade but wasn't too keen on Eminem being the model for Wesley.I understand why the movie didn't follow the original story but did the movie writers have to come up with such a lame plot to replace it? What a disappointment that was. I wish we'd waited for rental.
I'm glad Mark Millar got a movie contract but his story bore little resemblance to what appeared on the screen.
I watched Batman: Gotham Knight Wednesday with my kids. My littlest (5) was bored but he was tired and cranky. My oldest (12) enjoyed it. I thought it was much better than the Superman Doomsday movie and this is coming from a big Superman fan.Having Kevin Conroy back was great. I love his Batman.
Finally saw the new Hulk movie. I enjoyed it and was amused by how many homages I saw to the television show in this one. I liked Ang Lee's Hulk movie but thought Edward Norton was a much better choice to play Bruce Banner than Eric Bana. He's got the perfect nerdy look.Overall an enjoyable superhero flick.
I haven't been to see the Hulk yet. That's waiting until after next week's vacation.I've never been a big fan of the Hulk as a character and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Ang Lee's take on the character. I know comics fans by and large hated it but I thought it was fun.
This version looks to be good as well, which will be another pleasant surprise if that turns out to be true.
I'm taking the Wanted trade with me on vacation. The movie does look kind of fun and I'm not even an Angelina Jolie fan.Just from flipping through the trade the main male character looks very average and I thought the male lead for the movie fit that.
I'll withhold judgment until I've read the trade and seen the movie though. It really is a nice time to be a comics fan when it comes to movie adaptations.
Ack! That was on television? I just googled and saw it was on the SciFi Channel. I saw a preview for it on a Hellboy DVD and thought it looked like a hoot but always assumed it would be a direct-to-dvd release.
The weakest were the Ultimate Avengers movies. Iron Man and Dr. Strange were better. They take some liberties with their origins but they're decent. If you can pick them up for under $10, definitely worth it.
Oh, gosh...there are so many. Being a big fan of the Legion of Super-Heroes I'd love to see a direct-to-DVD release LSH movie. Preferably not based on the WB cartoon series but one more true to the Legion comic.Daredevil has so many fun story arcs that are perfect for direct to DVD. The current Brubaker storyline would be great for one as a matter of fact.
I quite enjoyed the Dr. Strange DVD and wouldn't mind seeing more of those. His weird forays into mystical dimensions are perfect for animation.
Okay...kind of a comic book movie in that comic books were made off this property...Speed Racer is awesome. Ignore the critics, it's just plain fun. If you've seen the cartoon you'll know what to expect with the movie--over-the-top car battles galore. The movie captured the spirit of the cartoon perfectly imo.
Iron Man was total fun and I'm not even a fan of the comic. I hope Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role for Iron Man 2. He was fantastic as Tony Stark.Be sure to wait through the credits for a short scene involving Nick Fury.
