205759 Apologies for being entirely awol in my readalong hosting duties, I'm battling flu and my phone weirdly won't let me post here so I have to be on the laptop and keep forgetting. Anyway!

I love Wyrd Sisters! It's been a lot of years since I last read it and I just had a kind of vague feeling that I liked it more than Equal Rites but couldn't remember why. Reading all of your comments about Granny makes me think that might have been the reason, although I have to say although I love Granny Weatherwax for me it's really all about Nanny Ogg. She's literally laugh out loud hilarious.

I'd also sort of forgotten (as much as you can forget) how good Pratchett is with words, which sounds silly but his descriptions of things are just brilliant, and unlike anything else I've ever read as far as I can remember. I'm still telling people things were 'as dark as the inside of a cat'. Love it!

Due to the fluey awful I'm probably not going to post weekly on the blog but will pop up in the discussion here randomly and then do a wrap up at the end of the month.

Also I totally agree with Nic, calligraphy definitely takes dedication! I'm hopeless at it!

205759 I've posted on my blog about reading order this morning - might be a good place to start if you've no idea about the series! I'd love to hear people's thoughts on it, either over on the blog or here :-)

Personally I started with The Colour of Magic, super didn't get into it and gave up for a few years and then was eventually enticed back by Mort and fell in love...

205759 Here's the schedule on my blog as well as a place to link up your own blog or wherever you'll talk about the book if you plan to do that outside of this group, just so everyone can make sure they're following you - http://anarmchairbythesea.blogspot.co...

205759 So for those who want to join in with a readalong in January the title as voted for by you is Wyrd Sisters!

Technically this isn't actually a first book but a second, but I think it's close enough to the beginning of the Witches to count for January's theme of 'In the Beginning'!

Because Terry Pratchett doesn't do chapters I've had to divide the weekly reading by page numbers. I'm reading from the old Corgi paperback (with the Josh Kirby cover) but hopefully page numbers will tally up at least roughly! People can chat here any time but I'll also be posting weekly on Sunday nights on my blog (www.anarmchairbythesea.blogspot.com) and will leave a link up there in case anyone else blogs about it!

Here's the schedule:

January 1st - 8th - Beginning to P82 "and to think she had expected it to be small..."

January 8th - 15th - P82 - P171 "and grinned a set of gums that were more menacing than teeth"

January 15th - 22nd - P171 - P248 "And as for thinking it could be controlled..."

January 22nd - end - P248 - end of the book!

Obviously these are rough guidelines - if you read more or less one week or finish the book really quickly or not at all that's also totally fine!

If you're planning to take part feel free to say hi/wave etc below!

205759 There's now a poll up for which title to read-along in January, so if you're interested in kicking off the year with a group read then scroll down to the bottom of the group homepage and vote!

I've included the first book in all the mini series (I put Equal Rites and Wyrd Sisters as ER has some wizards too as far as I remember...) except Tiffany Aching and Moist von Lipwig, as these are shorter series with dedicated months later in the year, and in the case of Tiffany, already another readalong scheduled!

205759 That would be great Sue, just let me know where you're planning to host (here, on a blog, twitter etc) and I'll update the schedule! :-)

205759 There is a schedule for the event for those who are interested in reading this way. We have different people hosting different months and are still looking for a couple of hosts so shout if you're interested. We're also thinking of doing a few more readalongs over the course of the year - currently there are three definites but if you'd like to be responsible for leading discussion on any other titles just let me know! it's likely that people will be reading the same book at the same time throughout the year as well, I just find the format of readalongs motivational!

The schedule is here: http://anarmchairbythesea.blogspot.co...

Hi! My sister Miriam (who'll be along soon I'm sure!) just moved to Vienna , we're looking forward to visiting her there!

You just listed all my favourites :-) I have a soft spot for Moist especially although I still haven't read Raising Steam - something 2017 will rectify I think!

Hi Mandy! The Colour of Magic is great but far from my favourite (I think that's the case for others too!) so I hope you'll find some to fall in love with during the year :-)

Hey Jess! Excited you're joining us :-) I think you'll love Discworld (OK maybe just because I think everyone will but you know!) and am excited to throw book recommendations at you, it's what I do best!

205759 So for the people who aren't Nahree and don't already know me, hi! I'm Bex (or Bekah or Rebekah... occasionally Chewbecca, but NEVER Becky) and I'm in Kent, UK. I've loved the Discworld books since I was a teenager although I somehow haven't read every Pratchett book, and a lot of those I've read I now don't remember so this year will be great for rereading those titles!

205759 Aww thanks Nahree!! I can't believe you haven't - I think you'll like it, particularly the Tiffany Aching books :-) I know what I'm sending you for Christmas... (although it won't arrive until like February now probably lol)

205759 Hello!
I'm busily getting ready for next year and trying to decide what to read next (how?? how will I decide??) but in the meantime I thought it would be good to get to know each other a little so if you want to let us know your name, where(ish) in the world you are and whether you've read every Discworld book, none of them or somewhere in between that would be fun I think!
