Really interesting excerpts, Jonny. One for my TBR.

That's good to now, Mike. I kike the way Clare Mulleybhas found this lady and her story and brought it to wider attention. I have this in my TBR, so will look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Excellent excerpts, Rick. I did like this "... whose language when he recognised his commanding officer maintained the highest traditions of the A.I.F.".
I've just started this. Somewhat dated as being written/published in 1964, but does have a good many 30-40 names quoted as contributors, evenly spread between officers and other ranks.

Ferguson's book does look good, Darya.

That's a nice article, Liz. Ill have a read of this later. Thanks for posting.

Hi Carl, I'm not aware of the airborne divisions serving in both theatres:
11th = Pacific;
13th deployed to Europe but didn't see action;
17th = Europe;
And of course, 82nd and 101st in Europe.
I guess he may have moved units?

Thanks, Liz. I visited the Churchill War Rooms for the first time in some 25-30 years (it was then called the Cabinet War Rooms), and it was excellent.
there are, since my last visit, many more areas open, and the audio guided tour is very good indeed.

Good post, Tom. Very interesting.

I remember when the book was published that excerpt featured heavily in the press. I suppose it beats lighting beacons along the hills of England and waving flags.

A nice touch to have this as the book of the month Rick. No age at all and I'm sure there would have been many more books. RIP Sir.

Welcome Tim.

A nicely put together review Jonny.

Hi Emma, welcome to the group. A fascinating area to be interested in. Feel free to chip in and enjoy. Cheers.

If you can get a copy then this is a nice one that covers the Walrus's war work including its role as air-sea rescue:
