2070 Its really nice to hear that genre X got inspired you to read something you normally wouldn't, Sandi! Hiro's name was actually a hot topic during our discussion, as people seemed to have strong feelings on both sides about it. I'm sorry to hear about the headaches (I get migraines too, so I can kinda relate), but I hope one day we WILL see you in the Snug. :)

House of Leaves (11 new)

2070 Yay I love that everyone can't wait to discuss House of Leaves!!! The very first library book discussion I ever facilitated was for House of Leaves and only 4 people came, two of which were my friends. So it makes me so happy that you guys are really anxious to discuss it.

I can't remember who all I was discussing Poe's album with at genre X, but I HIGHLY recommend that everyone listen to it when you read the book. She actually guides you to certain pages when listening to certain songs. She released this album shortly after her and Mark's father died and she includes a lot of old sound bytes from her dad. Its all very spooky and/or sad without the book tie-in, but when you throw House of Leaves into the mix it just makes it even creepier. Its a really solid album on its own though, too.

Crossing my fingers that my second time through House of Leaves will be as fun as my first...

2070 Thanks to everyone who has contributed suggestions so far and I continue to encourage those who haven't spoken up to do so! Based on your input and the discussions that have attracted the most attendees, I believe we will be refining our choices next year to include a more diverse and, shall we say, "meatier" array of titles. Since we do plan on holding another Book Swap in December instead of a discussion, be prepared to kick off the 2009 genre X lineup with another juggernaut like Murakami!
