21016 I've made Veronica and Emma Mods, they should now be able to add any other people that want to help out as well.
I've removed myself as a mod.

I wish you all the best!

21016 Hi Everyone!

I apologize for leaving this group unattended. It was never my intention to end up being the lone moderator for this group, but nevertheless I apologize for leaving you all hanging. I've had a lot going on in my personal life, and have in fact been on hiatus for over a year. I've only recently occasionally been back to GR, and mostly to track books, not really for the social features.

All that to apologize and to offer at least somewhat of an explanation.

Unfortunately I don't really expect to be back on the social side of Gr, which means I'm not really the person to reboot this Group.

I think it would be best for me to leave the moderating to people who are actually active, so the Group's public face can at least reflect that you guys have been active and florishing, even without a Mod Team.

The easiest way for this to happen would be if someone (or multiple someones) stepped forward, so I can appoint them as a Mod in my stead. That way you guys can figure out amongst yourself where to take the Group, and can appoint some moderators amongst yourselves.

I've put notifications on this thread, so just reply here.

Apologies again.

21016 Wasn't that already released? Or do you refer to the movie thing? Is that still on?

21016 The brother wasn't a cyborg though.
But the politics and inventions and aliens are really cool in that universe, and I as well would really enjoy it if she wrote more in it.

21016 Steve this is a thread specifically about Linnea Sinclair, please post your query needs in a thread of its own.

I loved Games of Command by Linnea, it's one of my favorite romances even. I think the sci-fi/romance ratio is about 50/50 there, but a lot of the sci-fi is action focused. I adore that book though, the hero (a cyborg) is just so very swoon worthy :)

21016 I read the first 3 Sirantha books, but then I got worried, so I decided to wait until the series was finished, so I wouldn't have to torture myself with a bad situation and not have the book to clear it up.
21016 Ooh. I'll check it out!

21016 That's great news!

21016 Just finished The Starlight Rite by Cherise Sinclair . I really liked the SF, which was of a cultural nature rather than a science/technology angle, but that's my favorite kind of SF. The romance was ok as well, although I think the sexual slave thing is probably not everyone's cup of tea. Definitely on the erotic side of SFR.

21016 I had a feeling it was gaining popularity slowly. At least I definitely haven't run out of SFR books on my TBR
Jan 09, 2012 03:25AM

21016 This sounds awesome, and I'm definitely going over to vote (hate that this happened while I was traveling, because now I probably missed the first round).
Jan 05, 2012 03:19AM

21016 Pauline, that's a great idea about the TBR-challenge.
I'm not with a stable internetconnection right now, and Michelle is AFK for a bit longer, but once we're both back here and running, we'll organize something like that!

More tropes will be added later, when I have trustworthy internet, and access to the list I prepared at home!

For now, you can find heaps of them at the Love Tropes page of TV Tropes, as well as the Romance Novel Plots page.

I've also made a short list of Trope Listopia's that can be found here on Goodreads, but more will be added soon!

2. "I've Loved You For Years"
3. Beauty and the Beast
4. Best Second Chance Romance
5. Mail Order Brides and Arranged Marriages

Character Based Lists
1. Nerdgasms
2. Fresh Scent of Pining Hero
3. Best Tortured Heroines in Romance Novels

21016 SCIENCE-FICTION TROPES
More tropes will be added later, when I have trustworthy internet, and access to the list I prepared at home!

For now you can check out the tropes assembled on Speculative Fiction Tropes. I've got a list at home that's Sci-Fi only, but until I get there you'll have to check if it isn't a fantasy trope yourself. Or if you want to, you can check out The Grand List of Overused Science Fiction Clichés

21016 I'm in a place with a terrible internet connection, so this thread will be cleaned out and expanded on once I'm back in the civilized world.

It's time to kick off the first Trope Bingo game!!

The background info and longer explanation can be found in the Are You Game thread, which also serves as the place to ask questions and discuss. This thread focuses only on the Bingo postings.

TROPE BINGO

Are Rakes still Rakes in space? Are Virgin Widows still as common in futuristic romance as they are in historical romance? Time to find out!!

The basic principles
Below you'll find a list of SF Tropes and a list of Romance tropes, both with links to either listopia lists on GR or the TVTropes website, that explain what the trope is about, and give examples.

If you read a SFR that combines two of them you can cross that on your bingo card (read post it in the thread). If you have 5 books you shout BINGO, and you've won the game.

There's also room to freestyle, you don't have to pick a trope from the lists we provide, you can go hunting for them on your own (TVtropes has thousands of them), the only requirement is that it's either a Romance or a Sci-fi trope, and that there is a page somewhere with books that have the trope.

Be aware, you can't use the same trope twice per game. Also note that if you use a book that someone else has used, your trope combination can't be the same (most books use a lot of tropes at the same time, so this shouldn't be too much of a problem)

This first game is played from January the first to March the 31st, so nobody has to rush and read, and everyone who has a full Bingo Card by the end is a winner.

A simple example

Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair
Games of Command features a Cyborg, which is a Speculative Fiction Trope, and Love At First Punch, which is a romance trope.

Sometimes Tropes can have crazy names on TVTropes. For instance, Enemies to Lovers is called Dating Catwoman. That's why we'll provide a list with basic tropes and an explanation.

To play, sign up below. Each time you read a new book you EDIT your original post and add the book with the following information:
*Booktitle and author (preferably linked with the add book system so there's a link)
*The date you finished reading. (Can be a reread, just has to be read in the 3 month period)
*The SF trope that is used, with a link to either the listopia list or the TV-Tropes page
*The Romance trope that is used, with a link to either the listopia list or the TV-Tropes page

Optional: a link to your review of the book.

If you have 5 books, you can make another comment in this thread to shout BINGO.

All other posts, like questions about tropes, discussions about books you've read and how the tropes apply, congratulations and celebrations should go into the Trope Bingo Discussion Thread.

Enjoy!

Anne McCaffrey (15 new)
Dec 31, 2011 04:00AM

21016 Finished it entirely and gobbled it up, although the first book was by far the best and in the latter books some stuff happened that gave me the bejeebies.

I'm not sure she's the author for me, but maybe I should judge her by the books she got famous with.
Dec 28, 2011 03:12AM

21016 Just finished with the entire Catteni series by Anne McCaffrey, the first 3 books were absolutely great rSF, but the fourth book seemed badly edited (content wise, it conflicted with the previous books) and a lot of what made the first 3 so interesting was simply left out.

I think it was also supposed to start a new trilogy in the series, but then stopped, so the third book is actually a better ending.
