A specific theme the author emphasized in were don't let people tell you what to do when you don't want to do it. I think the author was trying to come across that you don't have to give in to peer pressure. The author did this by Kayla not getting the tattoo. Or Mfumbe not getting the tattoo either by not listening to his dad.
Tanvi wrote: "So far this book started with giving me the feeling of hmmm what could be happening and then it started giving me feeling of dread and suspicion and next was hope that she would hopefully be okay n..." I agree with you Tanvi, because the mood is starting to become suspicious, especially some of the people that Kayla trusts, or trusted.
The book makes me feel eerie and sketchy about the characters especially Kayla's mom. I feel that way because her mom's bar code tattoo is turning her life upside down. When her mom dies it makes me feel bad for Kayla because she has no one to rely on anymore. I think the author was trying to make me feel this way because she has both Kayla's parents die because of the bar code. And Zekeal turned on Kayla and the whole decode group.

I agree with you Leah because in the future there is new technology that can control different things. And lots of people can try to get you to do things.
Tanvi, I don't agree with you because a lot of the stuff that is happening in the book happens in the real world. Like when people try to peer pressure people into doing things they don't want to do.
I think the characters seem real and believable. I think that because Amber is trying to peer pressure Kayla into getting a tattoo. But some people like Mfumbe and Zekeal are trying to talk her out of it. And a lot of things like that happen in the real world.
The part of the setting that is unique is that it takes place in the future. And in the future they are giving out bar code tattoos which can control the peoples lives that have them. The setting is taking place at school. Some kids are trying to stop people from getting bar code tattoos. The main character does not want to get a tattoo and support the kids who are trying to stop people from getting tattoos. But her friend wants her to get a tattoo because she wants her to be like everyone else.
