Good luck with the Chaucer.
Ah, yes! It was the "In Search of the Trojan War" TV series way back in the '80's that first brought my attention to Troy. Not sure how much of that was due to the presence of a cute historian in ridiculously tight jeans running around the Greek Islands...
Oh, that is quite gorgeous! I'd very much like to visit Skipton castle. Travelling through Yorkshire in '97 I fell in to conversation with a bloke at a petrol station about where I'd been and what I'd seen (York, Middleham, Barnard Castle, Scarborough, Whitby...all the usual suspects), and he recommended Skipton. Sadly it was several hours I couldn't afford out of my way, so not doable, but I'd really like to see why he thought it was worth visiting.
I'd love to see Troy/Ilium/Hisarlik/Troia, or whatever the famous archaeological site in Turkey is correctly called. The stuff of dreams...
The Arthur series is the antithesis of Mists of Avalon. What magic there is is mostly revealed as trickery, rather than mystical. I rather enjoyed both the Arthur trilogy, and what I've read of the lords of the north series. I've not read any of his earlier stuff. It's all good blokey stuff.
