And God how could I forget my mentor: Obie Oberholzer, the Keith Richards of South African photography.
I really do think that people who learned on film tend to think more carefully about the image. You couldn't just bang away like a monkey with a gattling-gun in the film era. I use both now but I'm glad I came of age in the days of film. I loved the darkroom too.
Cartier-Bresson, Joseph Koudelka, Bill Brandt, Salgado, James Nachtwey, Richard Misrach and a host of South African photographers: Angela Buckland, David Goldbladt, Brent Meistre, Marc Shoul, Mikael Subotsky, and... umm... myself!
