214387 I'm reading Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.

214387 I haven't read the book yet, but I plan to. I've missed out on this genre altogether, my brothers and father love Westerns, but I haven't explored them. The sense I get, from watching movies alongside my brothers is that the odds are stacked so heavily against the hero and chances of survival so slim that they didn't appeal to me at all.
Looking forward to reading this book.

214387 I didn't enjoy this book that much either. While plodding through it, I remembered a similar sensation while reading Life of Pi. The first story, with the car, was entertaining enough, although a little alarming. The second story was downright creepy. And the third story tugged at the heart strings, leaving me with the reminder of the fragility of life, all life. It wasn't an easy read during this pandemic and the lockdown.

214387 I haven't read Cloud Atlas before and I haven't got very far with it because I started late. I was hit by the racism in it but will reserve judgement till I finish the book, hoping Mitchell was consciously trying to make a point. I love the language, how skilfully he weaves those words.
Chrys - your project with your Mum sounds fabulous. Please do it.
214387 1. Did you like reading the story through the device of letters?
I loved it and thought it was a fabulous literary device.

4. Isola said “reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad ones.” Do you agree with that? Why or why not?
Maybe. But that's no reason not to read good books.

BONUS QUESTION. If you’ve read the book and seen the movie, which format did you like more (book or film)?

I deliberately didn't watch the movie because I invariably enjoy the book more and this was such a precious book I didn't want my experience of it tainted in any way by a movie.
