215673 A Thousand Splendid Suns was an impacting and lasting read for me - a sublime story packed with horrors of war. The characters are very real and induce a gamut of real emotions-hatred, compassion, satisfaction, grief and a whirlwind containing a mighty wallop of gloomy incidents. It says much about Afghanistan and it's culture. This is the thing about books, they make you a part of their world. Immerse you in themselves as if you were born there. Mariam and Laila lead a very challenging life in Afghanistan as women. Upon that arduous task, they are also encumbered with war.
I hate wars and all things related to it. Many human lives are lost-lives which were otherwise full of potential. Khaled Hosseini captures this sentiment very warmly. It is a novel I deem necessary to be read by all to make this planet a better place.
A reasonably peaceful place.

215673 I suggest The Book Thief.
I found it an excellent read. It is set in Germany in the period when world war II broke out and explores individual emotions and sufferings of the inhumane and prolonged event of war throughout the world
