I had a goal of 20 and made it to 23 by the end of October. Once again, assisted by find two series that I really enjoyed.

LOL!

The idiom "jumping the shark", or "shark jumping", or to "jump the shark"; means that a creative work or entity has evolved and reached a point in which it has exhausted its core intent and is introducing new ideas that are discordant with or an extreme exaggeration (caricature) of its original theme or purpose.

Hi Laz, good to see you here!

None of them actually make it to my GR TBR, but the ones I read will get rated and reviewed. It's a totally random process.
P. Pherson wrote: "I've not seen fantasy come up in a long while. Mostly I just see general, but...I will keep looking. Maybe I missed it somewhere along the way."I don't recommend a 'general' group. I tried a couple early on and it was not worthwhile--there is too much variation in genres and expectations. I ended reading books that I struggled to review and getting some reviews that made it clear that Scifi was not the reader's bag. Scifi romance even less so.
P. Pherson wrote: "I am a member of several of those review groups here on Goodreads, but I have not dived in. The pressure to read several books in a short time frame has me concerned about my ability to deliver, as..."Review group goes by genre, so anyone in the fantasy subgroup writes and reads fantasy. No worries there.
I read fast, so doing my share was never a problem and it was helpful to have a handful of 4 and 5 star review I could pull quotes from for marketing purposes.

There are so many ARC offers these days, that they don't get much traction.
When I was first building reviews I joined the Review Group:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
The group organizes 'review pools' by genre (horror, romance, sci-fi, etc.). Authors signup their books and in return agree to review others. It used to be two or three--you would agree to read three books and your book would get read by three other authors. But, not any of the ones you were reading.
I don't know what the number of reviews is these days. A lot depends on how many sign up-- the mods have to make sure there are no reciprocal reviews.

Michonne rocked. I watched the follow-on season just to see more of her.

I watched it on Netflix, so no commercials, otherwise, I probably would have abandoned it after Glen was killed.
Welcome Max.Did you ever watch the Walking Dead? It's a bit gruesome but I did like how the Carol character developed from a doormat into a total action heroine.

I always loved Carrie Fisher's response to that Return of the Jedi bikini."WSJ: There’s been some debate recently about whether there should be no more merchandise with you in the “Return of the Jedi” bikini.
Fisher: I think that’s stupid.
WSJ: To stop making the merchandise?
Fisher: The father who flipped out about it, 'What am I going to tell my kid about why she’s in that outfit?' Tell them that a giant slug captured me and forced me to wear that stupid outfit, and then I killed him because I didn’t like it. And then I took it off. Backstage."

I recall checking out a sample of this one, a few years ago, and it didn't catch my interest. I can't remember why not.

I've been in this group for years and never noticed this thread. Hollywood tends to exploit everyone and every thing--I don't find it exclusive to 'girls with guns'.Although, when I think of 'girls with guns' the first person that come to mind is Diana Rigg's portrayal of Emma Peel. Definitely qualifies under beautiful and sexy, but what the first word that comes to mind is 'indomitable.'
The 2025 Annual Action Heroine Reading Challenge is up: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...I've created an annual reading challenge folder with this discussion thread, the 2024 Challenge, and the current challenge. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
I'll close the 2024 Challenge to new comments January 2nd, but leave the thread in the folder for awhile as a reference.
