Wow! Garfield, you did a lot of work researching literary agents. While an excellent agent can get your book into the hands of the right publisher, that's still a gamble of whether or not the publisher will accept it. That always sounded like way too much work for me, with not much gain. I'm happy being an indie author, roaming Goodreads, and having a blast chatting with fellow indie authors. They're an awesome group of people! The current state of technology allows self-publishing. The only reason an indie author would have use of a publishing house is for the marketing potential, which is not always as strong as they are perceived to be. And a literary agent only has a minor role in securing a publisher, if that works out at all. Goodreads provides excellent opportunities for connections and self-promotion. I seem to think they might be the new technological marketing arm of a self-published indie author. Heck, even full publishers market their books on Goodreads. The higher your goals are, the more work you need to put in. But the opportunities are there.

What goals have you authors set for yourselves? How do you plan to get there?
