278878 I'm friends--personally or virtually--with lots of indie authors, and I'd be happy to make some recommendations.

For today, if you like time travel, Amalie Jahn's Clay Lion series is very well done: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

278878 As far as John Green goes, I'd definitely read Looking for Alaska next. Paper Towns had its moments, but I think it dragged a little in the middle.

I wouldn't bother with An Abundance of Katherines.

I did enjoy his contribution to Let It Snow, which was written in sections by three different authors. The three separate stories tie together in the end.

Green is great at those ridiculous teen moments, and the kids driving in the snow and the sledding/chase scene down a closed expressway in Let It Snow had me laughing so hard I had to set the book down.

278878 Thanks! Have you ever seen the short film of The Lottery? We watched it in elementary school, and when I found it on YouTube and watched it, I couldn’t believe how much of it was familiar. Those images were seared on my brain.

278878 Hey Shortcake! I’m so glad you want to help get the word out about books you love that could use some exposure. One I’ve put on the list is Missing Pieces by Meredith Tate. It’s a dystopian stand-alone.

278878 Hi! I'm Tracy and I love to read--and write--YA fiction, particularly dystopia and thrillers.

I have a four-book dystopian series that just wrapped up this summer. You may not have heard of the Resistance Series yet, because honestly, it's hard to get the word out about indie YA books.

I've started a project, and I hope you'll be able to help.

Do you have a favorite book or series by an indie or up-and-coming author? Show them a little extra love before the holidays. Reply and let me know about YA books you've read and enjoyed that others might not have heard of. I'll share the list to my email subscribers, on my blog, and here before Black Friday.

I look forward to getting to know you all!

278878 One thing the Hunger Games trilogy did really well was explore PTSD. All the Tributes suffered from it in some form, and Gale, as a soldier, was affected, too.

Have you read the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson? I found some interesting parallels between the two, and posted this a while back: http://counteractbook.com/that-could-...
278878 Hi! I'm new to the group today. I'd love to get involved in discussions about YA dystopian books.

If you're looking for a new series, and you'd like to talk with me one-on-one about the books--what you liked, what you didn't, and how and why I chose to write that particular story, I hope you'll check out Counteract, Resist, Ignite, and Revolt.

Tommy and Careen are teens who meet as the US braces for yet another
terrorist attack. When they discover that the government-provided antidote against the purported toxins in the air is really meant to manipulate and control the people, they join a resistance group that's determined to bring the truth to light.

What if the people you've been raised to trust really don't have your best interests at heart? What if giving up your freedoms means you'll never get them back? What would you do?

I hope you'll get the free download of Spark: Careen's Prequel to the Resistance Series: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M27CSWM and then come back to talk with me!
