Yeah, that happens to me A LOT. I've learned to sit back and let my muse roam free and happy in whatever story it wants; luckily, it often complies with my desires to focus. When it doesn't, I just shift focuses for a while because I don't want to lose inspiration for the other stories. ;)
That's great! I'm working on one main one right now, trying to focus my elusive muse a bit. It's called "Battle for Althea." Coma sounds interesting...what's your main story line, if you don't mind me asking?
I relax, write something else, or scream and bang my head against a wall. The latter generally succeeds in giving me a mighty headache. What do you do?
I can comment on that point. First of all, I do have dragons in two of my other stories. It gets repetative. It's kind of like elves-dragons are stereotypical fantasy.
Yay for intelligent comments and super useful helpfullness! I don't have dragons in this particular story, I promise Johnathan. This story is somewhat interstellar. It deals with Stars as being actual characters, rather than just lumps of whatever in the sky. There is a bit of magic involved, but it's not super-intense mage stuff because I prefer to keep the magical powers inherited through, say, natural birthright and that kind of thing. I would say it's a mix between physical and magical powers.
Agreed. I couldn't put it better. I don't think dungeons or dragons have to be in a story to make it Fantasy; however, both of those particulars add a certain element of excitement. I looked up the definition online, and Wikipedia said, "Fantasy is generally distinguished from science fiction and horror by the expectation that it steers clear of technological and macabre themes, respectively, though there is a great deal of overlap between the three (collectively known as speculative fiction)."So, yes, Fantasy can have technology in it. It's general genre, however, involves magical powers, beings, and places.
JANUARY SUCKS FOR WRITING!! Sorry candace, but january is killer for the muse, and a great hostess to writer's block. i find that it's best to plan on doing NO WRITING IN JANUARY!!! and that i should focus on schoolwork, since it seems to be the best month for it. every time i sat down to write last month, i ended up staring at a blank, lined page for a solid hour, twirling a pencil in my hand, while i should have been doing my math or biology or whatever. my muse is hopefully planning on coming back for february. it failed to inform me that it was leaving in the first place, but as long as it gets back here ASAP, i'm good. it's probably vacationing somewhere exotic and warm--with NO STUPID SNOW. for all i know, it's never coming back to freezing little ol' me here in boring UTAH. grr...anybody else having ISSUES??
ava, actually...mostly i just need random fantasy conflict that could happen to any character in a fantasy setting. based off of that i will make my decision and hopefully get ideas. since you know avalon, you can probably base any ideas off of that...so yeah.
My characters need more conflict in their lives...HELP! I need ideas for some conflict I can send them...anyone?
