2802 I look at the "Recommendations" here, read the reviews of what my friends are reading, go to Amazon and go to the category and read the description of the books then I might come back here to see how others liked the book.

2802 I had the kk for maybe a year close to two when it started getting lines across the screen so I invested in the pw when it came out but I was am happy with both. I might like the pw more because I can read it in the dark.

But I don't know where I have been.....There is a new device! !! The Voyage. I'm going to look at Amazon now. I was just there Saturday night buying something else. I'm glad I read this thread.

2802 I this is a great idea, I also see that they made improvements to the Paperwhite so a new version is coming out.

2802 I have the KK about the question of how it dies, well my still currently works but it has lines across the top half but it hasn't yet made reading difficult. I have a paperwhite as well which I love more but the only down fall is see in the PW vs KK is the lifespan and I read constantly. I've not quite had the PW for a year but I have to charge at least 2 a week with my KK which almost 4 it only weekly. I was looking for KK's to buy another one but I guess I'll probably get another PW. As for the memory and the safety that you have all your books. I copy my books from my kindle to the hard drive of my PC even though the Cloud on Amazon is for storage.

I would not get the DX to big to carry around not notice and easily storage for a average size purse. Also regarding repairs since I'm international it easier and cheaper to buy something new vs trying to get it fix. I think the price of a few kindles together is still cheaper than the IPad.
2802 Wow, I've read some great ideas! I don't know about replacing the battery if and when it does die. It does not look that simple like changing the battery in a watch. And since I'm international I won't be sending it back to Amazon. I've never heard of BatteryShip from where I'm located. I've been mindful to make sure I either turn off my KK or make sure the screen saver does appear. I have been all this time turning off the wi-fi feature both in my kk and pw. If and when it my kk breaks down I'll probably just buy another PW. I think over time the quality might be made to last longer. And at present their prices are reasonable at least to me. It sounds like though everyone mostly received a kk within the last few years. I love my PW :-)

I've done it for my PW and it worked fine. But I saw that option on the menu. For my kk to work today I had recharged my battery because I guess when I fell asleep last night instead of going to the screensaver it went blank but was continously on. However since recharging it seems ok but I'm going to have to be mindful to make sure I turn it off. But I didn't see the option for a reboot/reset on the kk in the menu. So while I think I might not have buy another kindle soon another part of my questions was should I buy an iPad instead of another kindle. Some stuff that does cost more is of good quality and can last long. Thoughts??
2802 Thanks all for your responses. This could be a stupid questions....but some have said they won't get a tablet when their kindle breaks down, when you say tablet are you reffering to the IPad?

I want a kk again but they only have used ones for sale and I need a kindle that has the 3g componet so I guess I'll buy another PW eventuallly and store my books on my computer. I know they are saved in cloud through Amazon but I don't trust that they will always have space and room for everyone plus I just like the idea that I have it.

I read for more than 4 hours most days depending on how I like the book.
2802 Okay so I bought my 1st Kindle Keyboard 3G + Wi-Fi November 2010 and my Paperwhite October 2012. I try to alternate between the two to extend both lifespan of each product. I notice that I was using my Paperwhite a lot because when I closed my case the light didn't go off and when I tried to select a book from the cloud it would not download so I rebooted and it seems okay. Thus I switched back to the KK which at this time has lines going across the screen (I think because I my PW resting on top of it and it affected the screen.) So, I am reading using the KK and I now notice that the screen saver does not appear if I leave it for over the amount of time. The screen goes blank but it must be still on because within three days I have had to recharge the battery. All this to say I think I might need to buy another Kindle. I am just wondering if I brought a iPad if the life span would be longer. I was against the iPad because it cost more and I would only need it for reading (I already have an itouch) and I'll have to buy the itunes cards to use it where as Amazon is flexible to International/overseas customers. So, I would like to know what you all think??

2802 I read over a 100 books per year and I take my kindle with me mostly everywhere so if there is a moment I can take it out to read. It's amazing how time goes by fast when I do.
