I have to admit that, well it's sort of like this. I was a fan who snapped up each Dresden book as it came out. Now it's been so long that the "get it now" urge is a bit weakened. Still I plan to get it.

LOL. I'm not around as much as I was of late. Still drop by occasionally though.

Hi Contrarius, welcome. I live in Nashville...and grew up on a small farm about halfway between Johnsoncity and Kingsport (this was in the late '50s early to mid ''60s). Glad to have you.

As I said there was no publicity or push by the publisher, no one really knew about the Twenty Palaces series for a long while. I never heard of it till it was already discontinued and I've heard the same from a lot of folks.

Apparently the Twenty Palaces series only became popular after it had already been discontinued by the publisher and neither they nor the writer wanted to go back and pick it up. I agree it's a good read. Too bad so many of us didn't find it until it was too late.

The Dead Eye series by Jim Bernheimer and Hellequin Chronicles Series are pretty good. Then there are some others that are a little...off to one side so to speak but still UF in some ways.

The Repairman Jack by F. Paul Wilson series is pretty good, depends on which book. Then there is the Eddie LaCrosse Series by Alex Bledsoe. He's sort of a PI in a traditionally fantasy world, but in cities.

There are a few others depending on what you're looking for. Some more, some less like Dresden.

It's all a matter of taste. What some like others don't care for. I've never liked the Iron Druid series but others love them.

Just a heads up...they're not nearly as good as the trilogy. To bad. The follow-up series is Paladin's Legacy is a better read, not as good as the trilogy, but good.

I see a lot of people like the Iron Druid series. A matter of taste I guess. I could never get into them either.

hi and welcome. Yeah it's been mentioned (I mentioned it, LOL). It is a good series.

It was mentioned "a ways back". I like it too. MHI is a bit more "overtly martial" but as noted I like them.

It's not (for me at least) the sex of the protagonist. I just don't care much for a heavily romantic story line. It's not urban fantasy but one of my all time favorite reads, I'd say in my top 2 or 3 favorite novels is The Deed of Paksenarrion. Again as noted it's a matter of taste.

Alison, PNR is to a great extent "in the eye of the beholder". I've tried Mercy Thompson a few times (as a lot of fans feel the way you do). Mark should try them himself of course but for me the PNR feel did take over the book. It's to a great extent a matter of taste I suppose.

Ever mantle doesn't. Harry as the Knight is still human but to be the Summer/Winter Lady, Mother or Queen you MUST be Fae.

I'm 65...I just hope I'm around for the end of the Dresden series and can try his "magic school" series....even I won't be a YA.
