50x66 It will be my birthday in 7 minutes, and this year I am the happiest I've been on my birthday in several decades--mostly because I have DECIDED to be happy.

Every time I have thought of my birthday this year I've gotten this big goofy grin on my face ... It's going to be a fantastic day beginning with a wonderful hot shower and writing a short poem for a friend .... I've made this really cool decision to sign up for writersmarket.com and start sending some of my blog pieces out to magazines that accept reprints, allowing me to publish FAST and yet build an audience among established publications .... My homelessness is ending in April, a blessing from Homeless Innovations Project, the loving and oh so magnificently faithful and PATIENT WITH ME social service agency which saw fit to vote me the awarding of a Section 8 voucher .....

So much to look forward to, so many to thank (hi lucy and eric and abel and avis and Ms. Nellie Gray), so so much to be grateful for.

Gonna go now and read two of my favorite blog posts: "Love At Johnny Rockets" and "His Eyes," might dip in on the piece about "It's A Grind," might propose a reading for the nursing home residents and staff.

There are so many wonders the world beholds ........ Thanks be to God, Amen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

50x66 I don't make New year's resolutions. I don't believe in committing to change only once a year.

Change should be, and most effectively is, a perennial process of willing acceptance of challenges that prod us toward growth. Change, infrequently, is easy and fun, but the rewards? Oh the rewards can be delightful and intoxicating!

The biggest and most powerful change for me of 2009 was listening to, actually growing still and focusing on his words, my significant other as he talked to me about how I managed the bills.

I had believed for months that I was mismanaging everything, but he continued to reassure me that I was handling our finances with great finesse. Problem was, I didn't believe him. Not one iota.

The fifth time he said it, I decided to listen and at least consider that he was right. What would it feel like, I wondered, to absorb his words and believe them?

For the answer, post to the discussion and ask a question of your own!

Love and blessings,

Dr. Ni
