30304 Welcome to the group Kim. It is nice to meet new people!

Perception of beauty in this country has been skewed so out of proportion. There is no room for curves in a world where 110 lbs is the so called standard. Well...I got news for the rest of the world...the "perfect weight" is different for each person. Were I to weigh 110 lbs, I would appear anorexic and sickly as my ideal weight is 144 lbs. This figure takes into account my height as well as frame size. Yes, I REALLY am large boned! Keep in mind, by today's standards, gorgeous, buxom Marilyn Monroe would be considered overweight.
Do not despair, we are here for you. If nothing else...we have broad shoulders and there is always an ear to listen.

30304 Yet people are still amazed that women have a skewed sense of body image. They tell you that you need to exercise to lose weight...and yet here is a woman who wants to improve herself and she is told you are too fat to participate in the gym's activities?!?! I tthink the "pretty people" were just not willing to share. "Gyms are for FIT people...not FAT people" seems to be their thought.
And the Hooter's waitress? She's 5'8"...132 is HARDLY overweight for her let alone obese. She wore size extra SMALL....TOO FAT...I don't think so. Extra small won't even go over my head.
Both of these stories have outraged me. The humiliation for both of these women is off the scale...
Remember Marilyn Monroe? In her day a Sex Goddess...in today's world she would be a Delta Burke, Kirstie Alley, an Oprah Winfrey...
People tend to forget that too thin is as unhealthy as too fat.

30304 Sugar is fine in moderation...so is everything else...booze, sex, botox.

Kind of what came first...the sugar or the corn syrup?

And now the evil migraine causing artificial sweetner, Aspartame, is creeping into everything...even stuff WITH SUGARS!!!! What the...?!?!

30304 we are gaining weight due to an increased sedintary lifestyle and the addition of sugar(In all it's splendid forms...High fructose corn syrup is the worst)into all of our food. Why is there sugar in my peanut butter?

30304 I just wish that plus sized clothes didn't look like something out of Donna Reed's wardrobe.
Why can't they make plus sized clothing in more hip styles? Hard to have a better self esteem when clothiers think their customers are frumps or '50s housewives.

30304 I forget which comedian said this but I think he had the right idea. He decided that as a fat guy he would wear a button which stated..."I beat Anorexia" to keep people from being stupid. I chuckle every time I think of it.

30304 I wasn't the "fat kid" while in school but I was picked on by others because I was the shy, quiet kid with greasy, stringy hair (All hail learning about the differences in hair care products) and her nose in a book. I do, however, think that humans on the whole are conditioned to fear that which is different, and we are conditioned as to what is "beautiful". If Cristy Brinkley, Tyra Banks and George Clooney are beautiful then Rosie O'Donnell, Roseanne Barr-Arnold and John Candy are all NOT beautiful. Poor Oprah Winfrey and Kirstie Alley don't even stand a chance.
It is so sad that "FAT" is the last leagal discrimination...thank the Goddess it is just to keep us healthy. <>
