31433 Hello:
Okay, here goes:
Caldarin walked into the Raven's Eye Pub, looking around. He wasn't sure what he was looking for but somehow he would know when he found it...or them. A bout of hearty laughter drew his attention to a darkened area in the far corner of the pub where five people (well, they looked like people but in a town like Three Orks one was never sure) sitting at a round table, facing each other, drinking whatever suited each of them.
Walking over to the bar Caldarin called for a Flagon of the finest red wine the Raven's Eye could produce. He was served very quickly. Picking up the Flagon from the counter he made his way to the darkened corner and the table with all the drunken commotion. Summoning his deepest voice he hailed the group.
"Is this a private function or can a weary traveler join in."
They all turned to eye the stranger with the deep voice. Then, in an equally deep voice, a boisterous greeting emanated from the Dwarf known as Leonal Toesmasher.
"There are but five of us and six seats so feel free to join us in our revelry."
The invitation extended, Caldarin wasted no time taking his seat among the others at the table. They all introduced themselves. There was the Ranger, Rick, he of the tattooed tribe, Brother Benjamin, cleric of the Church of the Loving Flail, Kara Nightseer, Elven archer extraordinaire,Plago, a bard with many tales to regale, and Leonal Toesmasher.
"I Take it you are from the Semaron Adventurers Guild?"
Kara jumped up with lightning swiftness brandishing a knife just under Caldarin's chin. Caldarin was amazed by the swiftness of her action. It came to him suddenly that this group may not be as drunk and useless as previously thought. Still, Caldarin did not even flinch in the face of this imminent threat. He stared coldly into the lovely green elven eyes, noticing how beautiful a creature Kara was, even for a sub-human.
"If you're going to put that knife to use then let's get it over with. I promise you will not get a second chance."
The table got real quiet. Kara continued staring at Caldarin until Plago reached up and gingerly removed the incredibly sharpened knife from her hand. Kara sat back down again.
"You must excuse her reaction," he started, "she takes offense at her uncle's name being butchered like that. His name is Semanon, and yes, we are part of his Adventurers Guild. Who is asking?"
"I am Caldarin, Paladin knight in the service of King Thornbeard."
Ranger Rick leaned forward. "So what brings yopu from the castle up here to the trading town of Three Orks?"
Caldarin leaned forward. "I seek information."
Everyone looked around at each other simultaneously breaking out into a bout of hearty laughter.
The portly Brother Benjamin chimed in at that point.
"And we're full of it," he said causing yet another uproarious bout of laughter from the group.
Caldarin got up, shouting at the group. He no longer had time for their drunken chicanery.
"My younger brother Robert was set up and ridiculed in this town and I demand to know how and where it happened.
"Oh," said Leonal Toesmasher, "the punk who thought he was a Paladin, having no time for the likes of demi-humans. Alas I remember him well, running back to Castle Keep after soiling himself, in his armor, while trying to prove just how mighty he was."
They all about rolled out of their chairs onto the floor laughing hysterically. Caldarin was not amused. He jumped from his chair, knocking it back onto the ground, drawing a huge longsword. Everyone in the place became real quiet except for the Adventurers guild who continued laughing hysterically.
Seeing that this situation could lead to disaster Brother Benjamin picked himself up from the floor and put a reassuring arm around Caldarin.
"Brother Caldarin, this situation is not worth drawing swords over. Such a messy business. Come with me for I know what you seek. I will describe the place where it happened. They stepped from the pub to the landing outside. Brother Benjamin described in detail what happened that night two weeks prior.
"In the village cemetery resides a man, a most eerie and creepy individual, Slandoran Calbar. His is a very sad and evil story. His parents were killed as the undead hordes of Droslogar swept the kingdom. He vowed upon their bodies, which he had to stop even after death, that he would fight evil by using their own black magic against them. By taking that magical path he became a part of it, his look and demeanor sinking like that of the black magic practitioners that use evil top further their causes.
"How can you allow such an evil pestilence to infest the sanctity of the final resting place of so many worthy souls?"
Brother Benjamin looked at Caldarin and smiled.
"He has done nothing wrong so he stays in a mausoleum of his own design at the center of the cemetery."
"We'll just have to see about that. My brother was in training and not used to evil and it's way. I will ferret out the unclean evil and restore honor once again to your cemetery."
Brother Benjamin shrugged his shoulders. "Suit yourself, but don't say I didn't warn you. He's a really spooky guy living in a very scary place. If it was me I'd leave him alone."
Caldarin ignored the portly cleric, making his way to the town's cemetery. Brother Benjamin watched him for a few seconds. Shaking his head, he walked back into Raven's Eye. Making his way over to the table all eyes set upon him. He smiled.
"He took the bait. Our little paladin is about to learn..."
...the lesson of a lifetime." Kara smiled from ear-to-ear. "There's nothing I like to see better than a stuffy ole' paladin put in his place."
"I'll drink to that," said Leonal, "heck...I'll drink to anything." They all chuckled and ordered another round of mead.
Just as the drinks were brought to the table the first moans and unearthly screeches could be heard. Deathly chilling, the unearthly sounds even affected those in the pub. In short order an additional prolonged scream was heard. This time the scream was most definitely human...paladin to be exact.
Around the table, the members of Semanon's Adventurers Guild hoisted their fresh flagons of mead.
"To Caladrin," Ranger Rick said.
"He of the brave and noble Paladins," added Kara with a hint of a snicker.
"Fearless in the presence of the dead," Leonal quipped.
"Defender of the faith..." Brother Benjamin announced.
To which Plago quickly downed his flagon, taking up his mandolin. Strumming the instrument he added,"and wearer of rusty armor."
Together they all sang, "And we all know the place where it happened!"

Hope you enjoyed it.
Have a Hoppy Easter!!!

31433 I'm in. A writers group for "Fantastical" ideas. Sounds good to me. I brought the tennis rackets and baseball gloves so we can both toss ideas about and whack 'em around a bit.
Haaaave a Great Day!!!
