General question here, would you mind talking about how you come up with your reading lists? This is a continual struggle for me. As long as I have a list I am doing pretty well, but when I have worked through all the books on my list or find myself down at books that I’m no longer in the mood for I end up with whatever happens to be on sale…That’s primarily why I use goodreads—it is the way I find books—looking at what other people read. And I’ve started using chatgpt—I give it my goodreads URL and ask it to recommend books I haven’t read. It does OKAY….gives me some books that look like popular choices but not necessarily ones that appeal to me.
Anyway, my method is really inefficient and I feel like I waste way too much time looking for my next book….would love to hear how other people do this.
Really looking forward to this! I have not started reading yet but I do have a couple of general baseline questions. I always struggle with money in Dickens books. Is there an “exchange rate” from the book era to today? I’ve tried googling this with mixed success. The last Dickens book I never really felt comfortable with conversations about money. The other thing I was wondering was when OMF is set?
This sounds like a good fit for me timing wise and I would love to read with a group. Hope it’s okay if I join the reading!
Beloved by Toni Morrison and The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano are both on my reading list. I would love to read them with a group. I just read Bolano's 2666 and it might be my favorite book of the 2000s (that I have read). I would love to join discussions on that one--it's definitely a "chunkster".
Thanks Lorna. Where is the voting? I can't seem to find the discussion thread for the contemporary read.
Hi there, I am looking forward to joining the next read. I found this group when I was reading Daniel Deronda by searching, and I realize this group reads a lot of the books I've been reading or wanted to read. I'm an engineer in Falls Church, Virginia and I like to read in my spare time. Looks you all have some terrific members and I am impressed by the book selections!
