Pierre is just so gullible and impulsive. He believes everything he's just heard from the person he's spoken with most recently. And then he changes his mind after listening to the very next person. He is one of the most irritating literary characters I've encountered in a while.

And yes, I found Pierre quite exasperating. He just lets people walk all over him and use him. I wanted to shake some sense into him.
I am faithfully following along in reading the discussion, E. The problem is that I've raced ahead in the book and I'm far ahead of where the group is now. I have a hard time formulating comments and/or questions because I don't want to inadvertantly drop any spoilers. (And I didn't keep notes as I went...I supposed I should have.) But I am enjoying the dicussion as it goes! It's interesting to see people's comments about certain characters and think, yeah, that's how I felt about that person too ... but now that THIS or THAT has happened, my opinion has totally changed!
I am thoroughly enjoying reading everyone's thoughts on this book. Every comment makes me rethink what I've read. Thank you to all for enhancing my reading experience!

Thank you for the wonderful chapter synopses and the discussion questions, E.! As I've been reading the book, I keep coming back to review your comments and questions. It's helping me to make sense of the vast numbers of characters and relationships. I look forward to following along with the remainder of the book. :)
