There are three Hobbit movies because the producers wanted to make money. There is most definitely no artistic reason for it; the result, sadly, is bloat.

353 Howdy! I just joined GoodReads. I first read LOTR in third grade, after seeing the Bakshi movie; my cousin told me there was a left-out character called "Faramir," and I asked him how I could find out about him. He told me I'd need to read the books.

So his father (my uncle) bought me the box set the following Christmas. I still read those same books every few years, though now they're falling apart.

I've read nearly everything JRR ever wrote, plus most of Christopher's scholarly works. The First Age intrigues me; my affinity is more toward Elves than Hobbits, if that makes sense.
