"I’m struggling. I know this book is beautiful and has a lot to give. But the prose is so challenging, it’s been so long since I’ve read a challenging book, and maybe I’m just not in the season of life to treasure this. Hopefully I’ll return to it someday and be able to appreciate it fully." Jan 14, 2025 07:41PM

"On page 191, Doug pops his shoulder back in but passes out after being thrown to boulders. The bf escapes & before long a grizzly tracks him down & chases him into a tree, but moves on for dead bf body. Brutal battle w/ grizzly & bf, ending in bf dislocating both forelimbs. Bf charges Doug but he jumps into River for escape. D&E drink hot springs h2o, rest, and catch up to boulders. Chad is alive & says D saved him." 9 hours, 38 min ago

Just finished Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, and loved it. Great writing, deep story, lots of history about places I didn't know much about, and lots of medical information, which I didn't think I'd find interesting, but did! Sep 06, 2011 08:58PM
