Anna wrote: "Billie Piper ruined Fanny Price's character so much!!!"Ugh, yes! I stupidly watched this version before reading the book and found Fanny so childish and annoying in the film. Couldn't warm up to her character once I picked up the book and found Mansfield's Park a really draining read. Hoping this'll change with a reread!
An adaptation I didn't really warm up to was the '07 Northanger Abbey film. There was something about it that was so off - it felt a lot less innocent than the the book, I think? Not really sure how to explain it, but it didn't feel right.
I've completely avoided all adaptations of Persuasion for fear of it ruining my love for the book. Please tell me I'm wrong - I'd love to watch a film version!
Sarah Louise and Soph: That's so cool! What was it like? I haven't been myself, but I'm hoping to stop by sometime next year when I visit England.
"Fitzwilliam Darcy became a fan of Fine Eyes."I chocked on my drink! That is gold, Marren!
Wasn't sure were else to put this, but has anyone been to Jane Austen's House Museum in Hampshire, UK?
Hello! As most of us here (if not, all) I'm another Austen fan and love her work dearly. I've read most of her books except for Lady Susan and Sanditon (I've been avoiding it because I know I'll be depressed with it unfinished and all). What I love most is re-reading her novels and picking up new bits and bobs on the characters and story - it's always a pleasure to read.
I have a feeling I'll be procrastinating too often here - it's so great to have a group dedicated to discussion on Miss. Austen. :)
