I hope everyone who has decided to participate have been enjoying The Name of the Rose. I know the discussions haven't been all that active, but the group is there for those who want to read it, or as a suggestion if you can't figure out what to read next.Anyway, as June is the last month for our current read, I'm going to open nominations until the end of the week for what we should read from July through September. I'll fill the open slot with random selections for our recommended reading list (posted in another thread). I'll put the poll up next week for one week, then name the winner so that anyone who wants to read it will have enough time to get the book before we start.

Here's the thread for our discussion of our Q2 2011 group read, The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. Please be aware that there may be spoilers in this discussion. Reading begins April 1, 2011.
Hey, folks! So, I'm not sure how many people decided to partake of the Q1 2011 group read of The Yiddish Policemen's Union. It doesn't seem to have stirred much discussion, at least not here, yet. Well, there's still a month left on the read.
But that being said, for those who wish to continue doing a group read, now would be a good time to start selecting our group read for the second quarter. I'll say that we can have nominations open for a week, closing on Sunday, 3/6, then voting for a couple of weeks. This should give enough time to make the selection and give everyone a chance to obtain the book.
Happy reading!
You can go into whatever discussion of the book you want. This thread is expected to contain spoilers, so have at it.We are about a month in now, so people can definitely discuss it.
This discussion topic is set up specifically to discuss our Q1 2011 group read of The Yiddish Policemen's Union. Be aware that people may post spoilers in this discussion. Also, please be considerate about posting spoilers and warn that you are doing so. Good luck, everyone!
Voting is complete and the winner is (and it was close):"The Yiddish Policemans' Union" by Michael Chabon.
I set the reading dates to go from January through March, which I figure is probably a good amount of time (not too short, not too long). A book specific discussion thread will follow shortly.
Happy reading, everyone! I hope you all got the books you wanted for the holidays. :)
I would say that Michael's list gives pretty good selection to choose from in a poll for our first group read.I have created a poll based on Michael's list, which I think gives a very respectable selection to choose from for our first group read. I set the poll to close on December 26 so that the book can be chosen and people can obtain the book in time for the start date, which I believe we are projecting as January 1. So go vote, and I look forward to read together with everyone in the new year.
I can't create polls since I'm not the moderator, so maybe the moderator will want to create one, but I was wondering if we should do a group read here. We could have suggestions for what to read, then create a poll to decide. Maybe in a three month cycle? I don't know. What does everyone else think?Obviously, people don't have to participate, but if anyone is looking for something to read and discuss, it gives them some guidance and a place for everyone to discuss a particular book. It could be fun. Maybe something to think about now to start in the new year.
So, I guess while the forums are down and possibly while going through a revamp by Alphamonkey, we could create a temporary home for the Official D&D Reading Thread here. The NY Times published its "100 Notable Books of 2010."

Opinions? Anyone read any of these?
