50x66 Influences.

They are everywhere. We are inspired on a sometimes daily basis and it is vital to learn from these lessons that are out there just waiting to be lapped up.

What are YOUR biggest influences? This could pertain to WRITING, to your CAREER or just your LIFE in general.

In my writing and life, I have many - I have always been attracted to the apathy and grittiness of the James Bond novels. Jack Kerouac, Sam Smith's "The Jordan Rules" - as Michael Jordan is the greatest competitor I have ever seen, The Natural by Bernard Malamud, Michael J. Fox, the Rocky story, and the Death and Return of Superman.

Comeback stories, stories about underdogs who become champions or of true winners - they inspire me.

And, since I have to have no qualms about being honest and forthright, the show One Tree Hill has actually been influential to me as well. The character of Lucas Scott - a writer and basketball player - has very, very vast similarities to me. In fact, that is where I got the last name of "Birth of a Salesman" main protagonist Vincent Scott.

So - WHAT INFLUENCES YOU?

Thanks, and all the best!

50x66 Hello all!

This discussion is for anything and everything regarding my sales/career advice book meets corporate conspiracy novel BIRTH OF A SALESMAN.

I poured my heart and soul into this work, as it encompasses major milestones of the last 10 years of my life. The book was written to not only give advice and counsel to those beginning, struggling or wanting to be better in sales or in business...but it also tells the fictional story of the "author" of the how-to book-within-the-book.

When I set out to write something, which I had always wanted to do, it was imperative to come up with a unique spin. This was it.

So....ask or fire away! Let's discuss BIRTH OF A SALESMAN!

Thanks, and make it a great day!
50x66 Hello all!

In this thread, let's talk about the importance of communication to us. Why we do it. If we are writers, let's talk about the how and why.

Also, feel free to ask me ANY and ALL questions about my writing habits and practices.

Personally, I feel prioritization is one of the biggest keys to success. Fires pop up constantly and sometimes our gut instinct is to handle things as they come. However, we have to have a set schematic to our day, week, month and year - a layout or blueprint of what we want to get accomplished.

I have daily activities designed for my writing, blogging, newsletter, marketing of my book and my website, and these are all things I had no knowledge of before I began this journey. It is CONSTANTLY a learning experience for me....and that is the purpose of this dicussion.

Let's dish on the how and why and the process of writing, communicating and getting our quality message out to the world!

50x66 Hello all! I am Carson V. Heady, author of "Birth of a Salesman" and a student of the selling game.

In this thread, I would love to get to know everyone. Please tell your name, a little about yourself, what you are looking for (be as general or specific as you desire), and what you would like to share.

I'll start.

My name is Carson, I was born and raised in the midwest by great parents, moved to St. Louis 9 years ago and have been in sales most of the time since. I quickly rose through the ranks, was promoted 3 times and kind of ran the sales gamut. Learned a lot through the successes and failures...and saw a lot - good, bad, and ugly. I have an amazing daughter...and my greatest joys, aside from being with her, are helping others succeed, find clarity or work through problems and find answers. That's why I'm here. My quest is for like-minded individuals with whom I can share ideas and learn from. And, in token, that is what I want to share with the world.

Let the conversation begin, and all the best!

Carson
