Job's White Funeral is available on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback, or I would be happy to send you a copy. I have spoken on the topic at my church in Pasadena, TX several times, and am open to invitations.
I would agree that he likely left an oral or written transmission, but the book we have is very unlikely to be from Job's pen. His stubborn desire for the restoration of his honor and dignity, as the passage highlights, is what keeps him trapped and unable to come before God in humility. There is much to be learned from reading other authors opinions.
I am not a linguist, so I rely on Habel and Carol Newsom who both note the large number of Arabic, and other words, some of which are unknown completely, which makes sense for a writer in a diaspora community. Both of these hold to the later author theory and both are highly respected scholars. But if the author were of an early date, I like Job as the author as well.
There are a lot of theories out there, but I come down on the side of an unknown author during the diaspora in Babylon. This is because of the language, as well as the lack of mention of Job's name until the post exile period. The large number of quotes and paraphrases indicates a writer who was fluent in Hebrew literature. Since Job predates Moses, his story must have remained in oral, or a written but lost, history.
I saw your first study. Interesting. The commentary section of my book jumps a bit, to avoid getting tedious. I have a separate chapter on who was Job, and another on who wrote the book, as a part of my introductory section. Then I provide two sections of analysis, one on historical controversy, and another on biblical comparisons.
I'll look into it. I am always interested in how others see the book.My approach takes a deep look into the mythology of Behemoth and Leviathan as a prophetic allegory. The result is a more sensible conclusion than typically voiced.
Just published on Amazon. This is my third book and my most heavily researched yet. It is a frank look at the issue of the suffering of the righteous. I am looking for honest comments and reviews.
