415806 I'm back! After a month and a half of super intense Latin study, I am more or less able to read the first paragraph of Holberg. Woohoo!

Below is my translation (hidden to avoid spoilers):

(view spoiler)

Weird translation. But I've learned a lot so far, and my translation makes some sense even if it's not entirely idiomatic. I will get better with practice. Feel free to propose corrections (and help me figure out why the translation in brackets is correct based on the Latin next to it).

I'm having difficulty with that line too. My general understanding is that witnesses (who were virtuous men and close to our hero) were brought forward to dispel rumors. I didn't see indirect statement in the first paragraph, but I may have missed something. I'm stuck on the word "quorundam". Will the new edition include these witnesses' reports then?

415806 My name is Fariba. I am a first year PhD student in French at the University of Pennsylvania, with an interest in late medieval performance and rhetoric. I have a very elementary knowledge of Latin, but I expect to learn a lot this year. I blog at http://Litexplore.com and I have a booktube channel called The Medieval Reader: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxnt...
