August 2025 (2 new)

415964 It is past Aug 12, but I did read One by One and gave it 3 stars. There were some bad things about it and at least one good thing. Since the author used the same twist that Agatha Christie had used, I guessed it right away. So that was a disappointment. And, in the beginning, it was so very obvious that they were on the wrong road to the hotel, but yet, no one seemed overly concerned about it. They kept driving on as if was normal to drive on an unused/unmaintained road to reach the hotel. One thing I liked about the story were the anonymous chapters sprinkled throughout.

The book is not always better than the movie. For example, Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman. Loved the movie, the book was just okay.

I have another example on the tip of my tongue. It might come to me later.

I am reading several books.

- The Silver Dark Sea by Susan Fletcher. Always a pleasure to read one of her books.
- One by One by Freida McFadden. I have just barely started. It is good. I have picked out 2 suspects.
- Fifty Fifty by Candice Fox and James Patterson. Very good. I really like Candice Fox books. But, I am not very far into it.
- I Am Ozzy by Ozzy Osbourne. Interesting. Good.

- I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb I know everyone loves this book. But, oh my gosh! It was depressing. I could not read one more horrible childhood abuse story. And I hated the protagonist.

Read: 14

Favorite: Rise of the Governor by Robert Kirkman (Read this on a whim. Was surprised how much I loved it.)

Least favorite: The Ice Star by Christoffer Petersen (If it weren't for the horrible violence, this would have been very good.)

415964 Laurel County wrote: "QOTD: What’s a bookish habit you’ve picked up recently and love?"

Not very recent, but it is the only bookish habit I can think of.

Reading more than one book at a time. I was worried that keeping the books straight would be a problem. But it is not at all. And I love picking up whatever book I am in the mood for.
