yep reread it in my early 20's and also the Christian references flew right over my head among other things.
41817 We read this in school as well I'm 27 and was born in 1990 so this was probably in the early 2000's when we read it. In public schools, it seems as long as they don't discuss things surrounding biblical references they can still use it. As a kid, my brain ignored or couldn't draw the references together about Christianity.

41817 If I can read 5 before the end of the year that would be great but although I enjoy them much like my Historical Fiction reads they get put to the side for easier reading. :( Anywho here are the 5 I hope to get to this year. I own them all.

1. The Annotated Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
2. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
3. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
4. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
5. Anne of Avonlea (Anne of Green Gables, #2) by L.M. Montgomery

If I happen to read those or DNF any of those I have more.:)
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
1984 by George Orwell
The Prince and Other Writings by Niccolò Machiavelli

I tried to find all my editions.

Just have fun. :) I know I will
41817 This has nothing to do with the book.....
41817 Anywho this topic is not about that but I had to put in my two sense as they say.

I would love to read this book.November is a busy month for me so I'll read it and post when ever I get it from the library. :) Hopefully I can finish in November.
41817 Joseph (Millennium Man) wrote: "No one should be allowed to start before the October read is finished. Getting ahead is an unfair advantage, GR is watching you! [spoilers removed]"

Disagree.
Some people might read faster or read when they have time. Or read slower and need to start ahead in order to be on the same page as others. November is a busy month. I think maybe they shouldn't discuss before the official date that seems fair but to hold someone accountable for reading ahead? No THATS not fair. Plus this is not a race thats not what its about at all.

41817 I dont know which classic I want to read but I went to BN and got The Histories by Herodotus I have to finish A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens I also have a few more books by him I have a few Jane Austen some Russian classics on my IPAD (which is always dead) some french classic literature.

I want to get started on the Histories because I think its important to read being a history major who one day hopes to teach at the college level. :) I love Literature but I dont want to teach it I hate the writing portions of my Lit classes I just like reading and talking about books but for some reason I can never get the papers written in the correct format no matter how well I think I've done on it.

41817 Slowly but surely reading A Tale of Two Cities (Barnes & Noble Classics Series) by Charles Dickens . Hope to finish it in April as I know I will not finish it this month. Sometimes I have to re-read paragraphs or start all over on chapters because I've some how missed main points. GGRRR.

41817 Wow thats strangely both hilarious and sad. Hilarious because i cant beleive that such a thing would be tolerated even back then and sad for obvious reasons.

Yes, the book was weird but I found that the weird-ness made me laugh. I will check out as many versions of Jane as I can I think there are a couple on my Netflix. :) thanks for the Rec.
