50x66 I've noticed that some people have joined this group. While we've never really gotten it off the ground, perhaps we should try again?

Thoughts?

50x66 Just wondering if we should try and get this going? If anyone is even out there?

Awesome. Only problem is that it may take me about a month to get this at the library. Not that I can't buy it but I try to use the library as much as possible.

Here are a few more book suggestions (not ruling out Discovery of Witches, just had these books in mind and didn't want to forget).

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, The Red Tent(this book has been on my bookshelf for 3 yrs now and maybe in a book club I'll actually read it!), The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott(I love Little Women).

Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?

50x66 Downtown (Atwater/Concordia) area works best for me.

50x66 Well I'll continue to give this thread some love.

I just reserved the following 2 books at my library, too bad it will take me a month or so to get them! Thought I'd mention them on here in case they interest anyone for the club.

Anyways on to the books: The Radleys and A Discovery of Witches

Thoughts?

50x66 Aaron,
It's my first book club too, so no worries. Here check this out: http://bestsellers.about.com/od/bookc...

Lori, if you're reading this do you have that Oprah link still?

c) Choosing books, another idea could be based on a theme. Every month could have a different theme and then a book is chosen based on that. It doesn't even have to be a theme related to the content of the book, could be based on the colour of the book cover, or the gender of the author.

50x66 I thought this thread would be great for discussing how we will organize the club. In the description area, on the main page, there's a 'rules' section so I will fill that in with whatever we decide.

I guess areas to discuss are:

a) How often we meet
b) When/where we meet
c) How we choose books
d) What happens if the group wants to split into 2
for X amount of time? (i.e. reading different
books)
e) Organizing the online space with book related
questions
f) Anything else?

I'll start.
a) For group meetings, I'm thinking once a month for now and that can change as time goes by.

c) Haven't given this one much thought. We could each take a turn, pick randomly, each suggest a book and pick randomly from said list etc...

I'll give this all more thought and share any ideas I have. I hope everyone contributes.

50x66 Ok the name has been changed.

I've started a Book Suggestion thread and am going to start a 'Rules' thread right now. Let it be known, I do not like using the term 'rules' when discussing the way the group will function, but Goodreads uses rules' so I have no choice.

50x66 This thread is for book suggestions. They don't have to be strictly for the club.

I'll start off with 2 books that I just read.

The Book of Tomorrow The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern .
She's a new author to me but I've heard good things about her (and my library has a ton of her books). The book took awhile to grab my interest but by about half way through I couldn't put the book down.

The Spellman Family Series by Lisa Lutz. I'm 40 pages away from finishing the last book in the series and I think I'll be a bit sad when I'm done. It's witty, quirky, well-written and keeps you hooked all the way through. The style is a bit different so I was skeptical at first but once I got used to that I couldn't get through the series fast enough!

50x66 I like that. M.I. Book Club or MI Book Club?
