Voting has officially opened for the 2011 Teens' Top Ten Awards. Voting will be open through September 15th! Vote here: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/yal...The Teens’ Top Ten is part of an ongoing project that connects teen book groups with publishers of young adult books. The publishers provide advance reader copies to selected teen book groups and the teens evaluate the books and provide feedback to the publishers. These same teen book groups create the voting list for Teens’ Top Ten by nominating their favorite titles published in the previous year.
More information, including a list of the rock star Teens’ Top Ten book groups, may be found at www.ala.org/teenstopten.
cool- do you remember what you did for it at NYPL? I've always thought we should do something, but it comes at a weird time if I remember correctly like right when school starts or the week before. The thing that surprised me about the event Abbie and I went to is that it was pretty emtpy. Same as the one I went to last year. They have such cool events I feel like they should do more promotions or something.
Teen Read Week is still a thing. I think it's in the fall when they vote on Teens Top Ten. It's through YALSA though. So does that mean you didn't make it to the Saturday event?
Hmm good question. I will say from serving on Teens Top Ten that all the kids seem to love I am J which we have the arc of. If I were reading for fun, I would read that. PS. I have only read good reviews of Delirium, so I hope the bad review is just a fluke!
Bartels, I think you're commenting as me. I give it to kids all the time even though I haven't read it myself. It seems to be one of the few that spans both middle and upper and is also a good one to give to non library kids.
Sam Zuckerman really liked it. It was a hot ticket item two years ago (I think that is when it was big) and tons of lit chat kids read it.
Take the Jane Eyre challenge! http://www.goodreads.com/challenges/3 Someone I managed to make it through my life without having read the book. I'm trying to correct that now.
The Library is introducing a new way for students to recommend titles to each other called the Star System. The way it works is that if you really love a book and would recommend it to another student, you can draw a little star on the inside cover. When you're browsing for books you'll be able to see if a book has been recommended by other students. You are only allowed to put one star per book and cannot put any negative symbol on books you don't like. So next time you want to let everyone know how amazing a book is, just grab a pen and draw a star. Have you started starring?
