The Los Angeles Diaries is one of the best memoirs I've ever read; it deals with the issues of addiction and suicide head-on, while evoking empathy and allowing the reader to feel privy to the characters' motivation and turmoil. I've taught this book to my college English classes for the past several years, and the students' response is always overwhelmingly positive. Kudos to Mr. Brown for having the guts and the talent to allow readers a peek inside his life.
